Perspective correction tool and background

PSP 2023.

With the perspective correction tool, assuming no crop, the program will center the new image on a white background.

Can that background be set to something else - a neutral gray or something?

That color should be taken from the "Background" color of the materials palette. If you promote the layer to a full raster layer the background will remain transparent.
