Stretching a short video

Post by eScooterBrett »

I am making videos of my eScooter rides.

After recording an hour long ride on multiple cameras, I also receive a short video (from a tracking app) showing my route on a map.

I want to stretch this short video, to match the length of my other videos... so I can go to the map any time (picture in picture) when editing my final video, and so the position on the map will match the video of the ride.

In other words... if I have a 5 minute video showing my 1 hour ride on a map... how can I stretch this video to an hour... so anytime I cut to that video it will show where was at that time, on the map.

I know that doing this will make the map video super slow motion, but that is not a problem, since it will basically put as a small picture-in-picture, from time to time, showing my route on the map.

Hi eScooterBrett
and welcome to the forums.

Yes we can increase the length of a video, this adds duplicate frames to the video.
Two options
1 / Right click the clip for Speed – Speed / Timelapse
2 / Drag the right hand of the clip whilst holding the Shift key will increase the length by adding frames.
There is also an icon on the tool bar called Stretch to adjust the speed of the clip, avoids holding Shift.

OK... Thanks.

I am assuming it will add duplicate frames evenly through the video... so a 5 min video stretched to 10 minutes would basically have every frame duplicated, doubling the length.

Yes, that is correct

Oh
Make sure you do press Shift or select the Stretch icon before dragging the end of the clip.

Dragging the ends without selecting those options will add duplicate frames to the end of the video, shows as a blue section on the clip.

As an alternate way...
I, normally use the rotopen plugin, and draw on top of a map. that's another way of getting a slightly less accurate but stylised map instead. It then becomes possible to hash that in with the google earth zoom in from space effect.
