I'm trying to do a quick edits on a bunch of files. I've saved a copy of the originals so I don't need backups - I intend to simply over-write the original files using the same names.
However when I finish my edits and try to save using /file/save, or click the toolbar icon, the program brings up a window with filename and a prompt for 'do you want to overwrite' - exactly as if I had chosen "Save As..." rather than "Save".
What explains this behaviour?
"File save" acting like "save as"

I just did a quick test on PSP2023 and Save behaves as it should.
Which version of PSP are you using and have you tried doing a reset? Here are the instructions in case you need them.

I'm using PSP 2023.
At this point I'm reluctant to reset the program to default. It's a pain setting things up, even as few as I have. I'll suffer noisily for a while.

Re: "File save" acting like "save as"
I don't think this anything to do with resetting.
PSP2023 does behave quite differently than previous versions on Save/Save As.

Re: "File save" acting like "save as"
I'm sure it is a bug.
It is still doing it. It seems that perhaps when I do an initial save (which functions as a 'save as') then repeated 'saves' do it as a proper 'save' operation, without bringing up the name window. But it shouldn't do that. And I am not even sure that what I am saying is consistent.
Naughty program!
