Preferences - Show Message

Post by Weeination »

I have checked "Show messages when inserting first video clip into the timeline" in preferences. Yet when I insert or drag a clip into the video track the message almost never appears. Is there anything else I need to do so that the message appears every time after placing the first clip into the timeline? I have had this problem with X8 and now 2023.

The Show Messages allows the program to match the Project Properties to the video files Properties.
The video file has to be suitable to do that, so for example a video with no audio would not work, WMV video types will not work.

The messages activates once when inserting the First suitable video to a New Project.
If the project properties are already set correctly then Show Messages may not show as they are not required. Check your Project Properties.

To test, start a new project, add the Samle_Lake.mp4 to the timeline.

When I add Sample_Lake I do get the message.

The project properties did not exactly match the properties of the video I inserted in a new project and yet the message did not appear. The last project had a 16:9 aspect ratio. The video for the new project is 4:3. The last project properties video data rate was 8000 and the video for the new project is 9000. I had to manually change the settings.

What are the properties of the 4:3 video, right click for properties, you can create an image of that panel to attach to your post.
4:3 was used by standard definition video, mpeg2 being the most common type.
If your video is not mpg then most likely would not be able to match the properties.
As mentioned we need to know the properties of video file

The properties are what you would see for typical DVD recordings. The message doesn't appear on both of these imported videos when inserting them.

Hi
I think there may be a subtle difference in your video files using format Mpeg2 and what the program supports the format as NTSC DVD, yes DVD uses Mpeg2

However I rendered a few videos using the programs DVD options setting the Project Properties to 704 x 480 to match your video, Show Messages activated when importing the video.
I did not have a problem replicating any of your videos

All I can suggest is that you set the project to as near as possible, or to your preferred output file.
