Problem with scrolling long titles
I have been making a scrolling title (like at the end of a movies!). I've tried two ways: 1. just letting "middle" do "fly" and set it for the whole duration, it works OK but slows very much towards the end; 2. putting "fly" on "enter and exit" with no animation on "middle", that results in the text being scrolled twice, once for "enter" and again for "exit" Any thoughts? The text being scrolled has about 30 lines - is this too long?

Re: Problem with scrolling long titles
Hi David
I set Motion - Fly – Enter choosing the first profile (scrolling up) Duration Long.
Then chose the same for Exit – first profile.
That produced a scroll from bottom off-screen, up to top continuing to off-screen
Playback was a little intermittent, I believe I need a faster PC.
Rendering that to a video then played ok.
Another option was to use Motion Options – Customise Motion
Make sure the text animations as above are deselected, start a new text box.
First I had to reduce the font size so all text showed on screen.
Then right click for Motion Options – Customise Motion
Set size to approx. 350
Drag text down to bottom below screen (position Y approx. -350)
Right click first keyframe for “copy and paste to all”, this sets last keyframe same as first
Rename (position Y from -350 to use 350) , by removing the –
Play effect then OK to return to timelines.
For me playing here was smoother than using the text editor animation profiles.????
Both effects look smoother after rendering, which for me took a very long time given that the VSP is only 20 seconds duration.
I have attached a VSP showing the text editor animation and Customise Motion effects.

Re: Problem with scrolling long titles
Hi Trevor, I tried out your examples and the first one repeats the text as I have found. The second works OK but the enlargement of the letters makes them a little fuzzy. I've attached the VSP for scrolling the first way showing the repeat.

Re: Problem with scrolling long titles
Hi Trevor, here's an example from my video with two methods, 1: fly on enter and exit, which shows it twice; 2: fly on middle alone, stretched to cover the whole clip.

Re: Problem with scrolling long titles
David, apologies I was viewing the text scrolling up the screen and not concentrating on its content.
Yes playback appears to jump to replay the text. It does not appear to replay all, but any amount is bad.
I little late over here in the UK so will have another look tomorrow.
The only workround I have in mind is creating an image of the text, then scroll the image.
A png image i believe would retain the background transparency
This issue needs reporting to the Video Studio development team / Corel Support

Re: Problem with scrolling long titles
Thanks, Trevor. Also the entry-exit method is what you get selecting in the title library one of the formats which has scrolling.

Re: Problem with scrolling long titles
Hi David
Thanks for your project file:-
Some things to note…
Are you intending in burning DVD discs as your project properties indicates that.
You appear to be in the UK?? So I would have thought using 25fps, yet the project is using NTSC 29.97 fps. It also uses interlacing which is not a problem, however if creating a slide show where most content are images then Frame Based may produce better quality.
Ok
The scroll issue seems to affect lines of text that are outside the video frame, if you can see all your text on screen, then apply Fly there is no problems, only when more lines are added that are outside the frame, then apply fly and we have this problem.
As a workround we can split the text into sections, creating 4 text boxes each with the Fly effect, place each on the timelines in sequence. Takes a little while to understand the scroll but does seem to work, may need a little tweak.
VSP attached
The other option would be to create a PNG image of the text,, image attached for you to have a look at, needs the text tweaking / bold.

Re: Problem with scrolling long titles
Thank you Trevor. Actually, although both my wife and I were born and grew up in Gloucester, UK, for the past nearly 50 years we have, coincidentally, lived in Gloucester, Virginia, hence the use of NTSC etc.!
I looked at a movie I made back in 2007 which uses the desired scrolling which, looking at the mpg, works fine. I used VS 16(?) or around that. Don't have it loaded anymore. I opened the VSP in VS2023 and looked at the clip and found that the motion was interpreted as the enter-exit method. I DIDN'T re-save it in VS2023! I do have VS2020 and opened the file in that, now, clipping on the scrolling clip a little window popped up asking for the directions to enter and exit, at which the application froze and I had to go to Task Manager to close it out.
So clearly the bug is new to VS2023.
Thanks for your help! The interlocking procedure does a good job, though labour-intensive! That's what I will do though.
How can I contact Corel to make them aware of this bug (which is NOT a feature

Re: Problem with scrolling long titles
Hi David
I was sure this issue had been reported before, just could not find it.
My brain is just not functioning as it should, today I found the relevant post/s, also reported to Corel with a reply from Joseph VS development team:-
https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?p=398764#p398764
No need to contact Corel as they know, hopefully with a fix later this year.
So it’s a known issue.
At least you have a couple of work-rounds

Re: Problem with scrolling long titles
Hope my personal experience can advise too.
I use custom motion, and text box. Animations also jerks too much for me.
Using a large PNG did not work out well for me, there seems to be hard limits on how far you can move a custom-motion and how blocky your PNG gets is you make it large and smooth I was hitting limits on how far it would move the image.
Also a tip. Do your long scrolling title as a separate sub project.
