Crop leave thin line on image

Post by CloudyBright »

I'm using the magic wand cropping tool. It seems to work very well, except. . .
The subject image (fruit) background was deleted but left a thin black line outlining the subject image.
A new layer background was added.
How does one avoid or remove the thin black line after using the magic wand cropping tool?

Is that hardline the original background? Then you can try the refine selection mode. Or just feather or contract your selection so it starts to bite into the fruit.

I'm thinking that it is from the original background which was black (or near black).
And don't understand how to contract or feather it. . .

To modify the selection in all versions of PSP you can go to the Selection menu and use the commands under the "modify" sub-menu.

In the past few versions of PSP, which your profile says you have PSP 2023, there is also the "Refine Brush". Which exists on all selection tools and allows you to refine the selection and clean it up. Here is the official tutorial by Corel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B68gaB4xQ0s

I do have a longer 8 minute demo where I show using it directly on this image, but it's mostly me rambling and playing. I will say though, that whereas the official tutorial sets the output as "Selection" I like to use "As new mask layer" because a mask layer is non-destructive and can be further edited with a paint brush, painting in white or black to further clean up the edges where the refine brush failed or made some odd choices.

Great video. I still need to learn the "new mask layer technique".
But from this practice I found that using the "Smart Selection Brush" gave the same results as the magic wand.
However. . .using the "Smart Selection Brush" clicking a second time removed the black outline - which was the goal.
