Simple editing problem

Post by Airone »

Hello all,
it's something I haven't done in a while and I guess it's easy to do. I need to delete a clip from the video track without the other following clips shifting to the left (they should stay where they are). I tried with a few key combinations, but I didn't succeed. How can I do? Thank you

Clips shuffling left is a normal feature for Video Studio and has been for as long as i can remember.
What are you going to do with the space.

You can replace the clip by dragging a Black colour clip ( or any Image) over the clip and drop whilst holding the CTRL key
Effectively you will have your gap and the clips will remain in place.

VS 2023 also has a Replace Mode, icon to the left of the toolbar, avoids having to hold Ctrl

Hello @lata,
thanks for your answer. My intention is to replace a chunk of the main track with another sequence of clips that are the same length as the main one, but edited differently and are currently on an overlay track. I tried to move the entire sequence from the overlay track to the main track by pressing the CTRL key, but the clips on the main track move to the right instead of overlapping. I've tried creating a Group with the clips to replace, but the same thing happens. And the same happens if I try to overlap a black color clip on the sequence of clips on the main track: everything moves to the right. Probably having more clips to replace is not properly managed and probably the only workaround is to have all the clips shifted to the right and then delete the ones you want to replace, even if it seems like a dirty solution.

Hi
The replace clip option works by dragging clips from the library, hold Ctrl to drop.
It does NOT work moving clips from the overlay track.

You could try replacing the top tracks clips with a black colour
Then position the clips on the overlay track immediately below those black clips.
You would not need to move the clips from the overlay track

Sorry for the delay in replying.

@zaphodikus, thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't apply in this case. The problem is that one set of clips has not been replaced by another set

@lata, the advice to put the black clips on the main track and leave the clips to be used on the overlay track seems to me a good solution to bypass the problem, even if I would have preferred a cleaner solution.
Anyway, thank you all for the proposed solutions.

Hi
If sync’ is not a problem then you can insert the clips to the top track, this will cause the existing clips to shuffle right, then delete the old / unwanted clips.
First if you were to replace the unwanted clips with a black clip that would make easy to id when it comes to deleting
1/ replace video track clips with black clips
2/ drag sequence clips from overlay to top track
3/ delete black clips from top track
