As you give no details as to the format of the video or why it is out of synch and what you are playing it on, we are working in the dark.

If you can get hold of the original tapes, which are presumably in synch, it would be best to work from those. If not, capture them to the computer, if possible in the same format. Take the file into your timeline, apply Split, and slide the audio to where you want it. Then render with smart render on, to the same format as your capture.

You may find the time difference progresses as the video progresses. If this is the case, you should Scissor the audio in the timeline to lengths where you can maintain the error to within, say 2 or 3 frames and position each "slice" for optimum. This may be laborious if you have no visual or audio reference, allowing you see, for example, a drumstick hitting the drum and the drum beat in the audio waveform.

Right click the clip and select "split". Reposition the audio so that it is in synch at the start of the clip. Adjust its duration (right click, then "speed") so that it is still in synch at the end of the clip.

Sorry for the limited info.

It is an AVI file about 700 meg, it is still in the computer cause i wanted to adjust the audio before putting it on CD. i cant get the original movie.
also i think it is saved in Divx 6.
I'll try the suggestions above and let you know. but i think i already tried a split and when i tried to slide the audio over a bit the video moved with it. I'll try again.
