Weird lined flashing area after render
I have one overlay photo over the same photo. The main track is blown up to fill the screen and then has FX average to make it blurred and PIP path for slight movement down. The first overlay track has the photo in it's original size with PIP path for slight movement. After rendering for bluray about 3/4 of the overlay photo has this weird lined flashing disturbance over it. What is causing this?

Re: Weird lined flashing area after render
I tried again this time with just black in the main track. Again the photo in the overlay track had customized movement. It rendered the same with the disturbance.

Re: Weird lined flashing area after render
I just tried it with a landscape photo and it works. Every instance I use a portrait photo it messes up.

Hi Colleen
Can you tell us the size / resolution of the image, its pixel size.
What are the properties of the project, if hd I would assume 1920 x 1080.
Your image should be 1080 high to fit to screen
There is also a FX filter / Background, not on my pc to check the exact name.
Place image on top track and apply the Background filter, should give a similar effect you are after, blur the background.

Re: Weird lined flashing area after render
4 images: 3853x5780, 3118x4677, 4000x6000, 4000x6000
Project Properties:
MPEG Transport-Stream Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(HDMV-NTSC), 16:9
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 25000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
I tried many times with VS 2023 using just these 4 pics and no matter what I eliminated, if there was custom movement, it failed. I tried using VS X7 instead using just these 4 pics and it seemed fine. Then I opened that VS X7 project with VS 2023 and it finally worked. Unfortunately these 4 pics are scattered throughout my original project. My work around seems to be to now use this rendered file, cut into 4 and put back into my original project in place of the 4 pics. I just hate that I have to take out parts and render as alternate files. I would like to be able to just use the program as intended.

Re: Weird lined flashing area after render
Hi Colleen
I have tried to replicate this problem, so far all works ok.
As a thought can you deselect the programs Acceleration options
(F6) Settings – Preferences – Performance tab
If that does not help are you able to create a VSP containing one image, edit in the same way as to create the problem.
Zip and attach your VSP to your reply here, also attach the image you used
We can have a look to see if we can work out what is going on.

I tried deselecting the acceleration option but the result after render is the same.

I do not have a problem with the VSP or the image, rendering was ok, a little jerky.
I did not feel you needed the cropping or mask filters so added my take on the vsp, attached
all movement and crop being done using Customise Motion.
So what is causing your strange lines.
Did you try deselecting the Acceleration options.

Strange. I did try deselecting the acceleration and had same result as with acceleration.

Re: Weird lined flashing area after render
I just tried the zip file. It rendered with the same disturbance for the black and blurred backgrounds but the one you added looked fine.

Re: Weird lined flashing area after render
Is the effect I created suitable, what you were expecting.
I did not use Cropping tool or Masks, just Customised Motion + Average and Monochrome to change the background.
Even so I rendered your section and was clear of those lines, confusing…..

Re: Weird lined flashing area after render
Yes I liked your effect. I too didn't use crop or masks only custom motion and average. It's just so unpredictable:
In 2023 my original project it fails.
In a new 2023 project with just 4 pics it fails.
In VS X7 it works. And when I open that VSP in VS 2023 it works.
I send you my 2023 project and it works for you.
You send it back and the first part I did fails but the part you did works.
I just don't get it.

Sorry but you have used the Crop tool and the Mask Creator on your images although minimum effect.
Select the yellow star on the clip, this shows all effects we have applied.
You will see the Crop and Mask being used, we can delete those from the star.
Otherwise double click the clip to open the options panel, chose the effects tab, you should be able to see all filters we have used.
Still a mystery why i cannot replicate the problem.

Re: Weird lined flashing area after render
Oh that's weird. I see that now but I never tried to crop or mask. Not sure why that's there. Hmm... My original project doesn't have the crop or mask, just checked. And that's where it started with the weird render. Also I removed the cropping and it still renders badly.
