Capturing still bad quality with fire wire
As said in my last post on the 12th ,My capturing is still bad quality. Its a little better but still just shutters and goes slow and bad audio and all that. I don't know what do do next. I've followed all the advice and now I still have nothing to edit with.

I can't find any post of yours on the 12th. It would have better for you to continue with the thread that you started with Ken because it has all the info that someone needs to help you.
I assume that you are trying to capture from a DV camera with a firewire connection with VS9. If so, have you set the capture properties as suggested in the top sticky post before you started capturing?
Also, pay no attention to the quality of the playback during capture. Wait until you have captured a sizable chunk of video, put in the Edit time line and play it back there. If it is still bad, tell us ALL your video capture properties on your next post.

You've captured at DV's full resolution and quality. How are you viewing the captured video, using Videostudio, or an external program?
The Preview window in UVS can't be sized freely and gets sized arbitrarily by the program -- if you wish to view the file from withing Videostudio, drop it in the timeline, then go to Share, and select Preview. This will play the video on a black background at its original resolution without resizing it.

I don't think he is capturing at a high enough setting - should be at least 4000. But he is already getting dropped frames.
During capture : close all other progs, including anti-virus. Turn off preview, or select a smaller view size - not sure if VS can do. Captures interlace setting must be the same as firewire's output, i.e. lower or upper field 1st
Also is the original capture in LP ? How does it look when viewed straight from cam to TV ?

check above link - How to capture DV .avi files from a Mini DV or Digital 8 camcorder using VideoStudio with an OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 PCI card.

Hi
When you captured the video did you select DV from the Format and did the select remain as DV?
If you did then you have no options to change, the data on your camera is copied to your pc as Dv –Avi.
This is ok.
If you captured as AVI option then you have to select the capture properties in the same way as capturing to Mpeg.
Use Windows Media player to play your Avi clip.
What is the quality of playback?
Your audio settings should be 48 kbps –16 bit. These properties are set within your camera, change them for your next recording.

There are no clues to your current location in the world. Just a thought, you are in an NTSC area and not a PAL area aren't you?File size 75,865 kbites frame rate 29.970 frame/sec duration 28.428 seconds data rate 2658.82 kbps compression dv video encoder type 1 attributes 24 bits 720x480 4:3 total frames 852 audio compression dv audio-NTSC attributes 32.000 khz, 12 bit, stereo total samples 909.709
NTSC uses 30 frames per second but PAL uses 25.

the view is perfect from camera to tv. Yes I did select DV and it remained DV. I did try it on Windows Media Player and the quality was exactly the same, terrible. I am in Denver Colorado. NTSC. I also gave my camera and the same tape to a friend and he captured it fine at his house on his computer. My next step is to have somebody come to my house and fix the problem I guess. Does anybody know of anybody in the area? Thanx, Kevin

Hey! I'm in Denver too. But I'm having enough problems with VS9 not to be much help. I can't get my upgrade version to recognize my prior version from the install CD. Then ran into conflicts with the MS Installer 3.1 issue. I was having jumpy capture problems once I re-installed V7SE, then the upgrade. Capturing using a DV camcorder as a pass-through device, I was trying to capture as mpeg, but finally figured out that my 1.8 GHz, 1 MB RAM simply wouldn't do it. Managed to capture as an AVI and it works fine.
