Background replacement, is 2023 better than 2022 or same?

I haven't owned PSP 2022 Ultimate that long, but I thought I'd try out the AI background replacement with some images I have of old buildings that I took on a smoky-hazy day, my goal being to replace the rather blah looking sky with a nice blue one with some clouds.

I tried on an image of a dark barn against the light coloured sky so there's a strong contrast, but it did not mask it at all, I had to manually "paint" the entire foreground I wanted to keep, really not much different or faster than adding a sky image layer and erasing the existing sky, just opposite.

Watching videos, it seems the AI just looks for people figures, is this also the case with 2023?

I'd consider upgrading (again) if I could replace backgrounds with it fast, as I have quite a few images I'd like to do this with.

Yes that is still the case. 2023 focused on other things.
