Using Aftershot Pro 3 within PSP2023?

Post by AthensFaye »

I'm using PaintShop Pro 2023 Ultimate.

I have already purchased AfterShot Pro 3 (and several plugins), but I can't open RAW files with it from within Paintshop Pro - it wants me to use the seemingly inferior Camera RAW Lab software instead.

How can I make PSP23 recognise Aftershot Pro?

You don't, it's not intended to work that way. The version of Aftershot that's included with PSP is an edited copy of the standard version, built-specifically to work with and send back the result of the edit to PSP. This doesn't work with the Pro version. The Pro version of AfterShot doesn't work as an external editor for PSP.

The proper workflow to start with AfterShot. Then if you want to bring it into PSP from there use the "External Editor" option.

I will add, simply for the sake of completeness, that it is possible to open Aftershot pro from PSP through the use of scripts. But there wouldn't be much point as you'd just have to use the "External Editor" option to send it back.

I upgraded to PSP Ultimate 2023 in hopes of getting to use AfterShot, as I thought Aftershot was a feature of upgrading to the Ultimate version.

Am I wrong?

I can't seem to find Aftershot after opening PSP Ultimate.

AfterShot (the basic version) used to be part of the Ultimate package. But not anymore.

The extra Software listed as part of the Ultimate package for 2023 includes:
Multicam Capture Lite 2
HIghlight Reel
Photomirage Express
Corel Painter Essentials 8
50 free fonts
Corel Creative Collection

The paired-down version of Aftershot that's now included with PSP 2023 is not technically a separate piece of software. To access that, you just open any RAW file and it'll give you the option to load it into AfterShot.

Hi Levi,

Thanks for your response.

I thought that was the case, as you describe, but when I upload a raw file, PSP Ultimate still doesn't allow me to select Aftershot to adjust the photo.

I guess I have to contact Corel support to find out why my program still 'blacks out' the Aftershot option when opening a Raw file.

Some RAW files/cameras are not supported by AfterShot. When it first came out my camera's version of CR2 wasn't supported, they added my camera later. So if it's not a chooseable option that means it doesn't recognize your file as a format that AfterShot supports.
