I apparently did the wrong shortcut, and I don't know what I have done.
What are the lines on this canvas called and how do I get rid of them please?

The lines are not actually on your canvas. They are the "rule of thirds" lines on your crop tool. Once you crop and switch to another tool they will disappear.

In the floating toolbar, click on the grid icon to get rid of it.
