After downloading and installing the HD Plugin, VideoStudio 9 will not start. I get the following error message:
"u32Cfg"
"The security information is invalid or has been modified. This program will be terminated."
I was not prompted for an activation code during plugin installation, and, come to think of it, no activation code was provided to me. Not in the download page nor in the follow-up automated email from Ulead.
After reinstalling VS9 I was able to get back in but reinstalling the plugin caused the issue to reappear.
Has anyone come across this one? Thanks!

After reinstalling VS9, I followed the ftp link from the automated email and downloaded the HD Plugin again. Ran the HD Plugin installation successfully and still geting the same error. VS9 won't start.
Strange thing is, the MPEG4 Plugin had an activation key in the automated email and prompted me for that activation code during installation. The HD Plugin automated email just tells me I'll need to enter an activation key:
No activation key anywhere!

Well, I tried a different sequence:
Reinstall VS9 - ok so far, VS9 starts ok.
Reinstall the MPEG4 Plugin - ok so far, was prompted for activation key, VS9 starts ok.
Reinstall the HD Plugin - hosed.
When I start VS9, I get:
The Sony HDR-HC1 is plugged-in with nowhere to go.
Reinstall VS9 - ok so far, VS9 starts ok.

I suspect I may soon exceed my limit of 5 activations on the MPEG4 Plugin. The security information is invalid or has been modified. This program will be terminated.

(1) You don't have to download the mp3 plug again because you saved the download install package in a safe location in your computer, right?
(2) I can't beiieve that you could download the same error twice. So just keep the HDV install file in a safe location.
(3) My best guess is that you will have to REALLY uninstall VS9 before starting the install sequence again. I didn't know that VS9 still had this problem but earlier versions would not completely uninstall and we had to manually delete all the Ulead directories - especially in C:\Documents and Settings\<every user name>\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead Video Studio\9.0. After deleting these directories, do a search on your C drive for *ulead*.* and delete everything you find.
(4) Now install VS9.0, the mp3, and then the HDV plugin.
If that does not work, send your Sony HD1 to me and I will take good care of it.

Good news. The HDR-HC1 shipped today and you should be receiving it shortly.
More good news. I installed the VS9 Service Pack and I'm up and running. I know, I know. But the list of bug fixes for that service pack didn't mention anything about the HD Plugin so I didn't install it straight away.
So I'm capturing HD now and all is good.
And, oh, I had an extra Blu-Ray DVD burner so I shipped that to ya as well. Hope you can use it.
Thanks for helping!

Great News!
I have not installed the VS9 update. The HDV plugin does not depend on it. I suspect the reason that it worked is that it overwrote the <user name>\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead Video Studio\9.0 directory, which replaced whatever ini file had been corrupted in the first installation.
Please let us know how you make out with editing HDV in VS9. I don't know how much experience you have with Video Studio, but be sure to follow the recommended procedure (above) and manage your HD properties fanatically.
I can hardly wait for the HC1 and Blu Ray burner!

Stunning Video
I have zero experience with Video Studio. I bought it yesterday based solely on the availablity of the HD Plugin and, let me just say, it seems to be money well spent, despite the activation issue. The video capture from the Sony HDR-HC1 is pure eye candy.
Sure, I can't burn HDV to a DVD yet but what I'm viewing on the computer screen is so crisp, why would anyone wait before going HDV?
This is my first camcorder. I bought it because I had an event to tape and I was torn between SD DV and HDV. Shoud I get a cheap camcorder and use it once or twice then ebay it when the Sony came down in price, or buy the Sony now and pay the price to be an early adopter? I'm glad I took the plunge. Buying expensive hurts once but buying cheap hurts forever. Or something to that effect.
I haven't been able to "Create Video File" using the NTSC MPEG2 HD setting but the MPEG-4 DVD (.mp4) output leaves me tingly all over.

Teeinep,
Mp3 does not have a large enough video frame or high enough video data rate to display your HDV properly.
You should have no problem creating a video file if you are following the procedure in the top sticky post – except that your Capture Properties, Project Properties, and Video File Properties should be set to values that are appropriate for high definition video.
Use the NTSC Mpeg2 HDV template or set properties manually to:
Frame size: 1440x1080,
Frame Rate: 29.97 fps,
Field Order: Frame Based*
Aspect Ratio: 16x9,
Video Data Rate: 25000 Kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo
Audio Data Rate: 384 Kbps
* Note, the NTSC mpeg2 HDV template specifies Upper Field First, but Video Studio actually produces Frame based video files.
Download a free copy of VLC, which can display your high definition videos using your computer’s full screen. Download at: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/27193
When you have completed a project video file and want to Export it to a tape on the HC1, follow the instructions on today’s post at: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 40806b5721
