Beyond VS Ultimate 21 - Is It Worth It?
Hi Gang,
I continue to labor with VS21's instability (i.e. frequent crashes + destroying timeline crops & pans, etc) within the Windows 11 environment and wonder whether more recent VS versions are much more stable. If it could be proven that were so, I might be tempted to upgrade, however a cursory review of VS forum threads suggest the same issues continue to manifest and I presume, as with VS21, Corel have not released bug fixes, preferring to focus on releasing a new buggy version every year.
So my question is: are VS22 Ultimate and onwards much improved by way of stability in thew Win 11 environment.
Thanks for considering

Re: Beyond VS Ultimate 21 - Is It Worth It?
From mid 2022 the Corel organisation has been undergoing a rebranding exercise, effectively changing its name to Alludo, not only affecting the company name but staffing levels as well.
Video Studio 2023 was released in February 2023, generally a service patch would have been released by now.
My own thoughts.......
The Video Studio development team do appear to be working in fixing outstanding bugs, many reported through this forum, only when that is complete will the service patch will be released. Whether they have identified all issues is the question? If so I am hopeful they can provide a bug free product (as far as possible)
Video Studio 2023-patched - then continue improvements for VS 2024.

Given what's been happening in other Corel products, like pinnacle, there won't be a 2024 version but instead this year seems like it's the long sought "fix it" time, and if that occurs, 2023 may well be the most reliable version yet. If you are patient. A bit of feedback from the dev team would assist that . . .

Hi Lata and Davidk
Thanx for your prompt informative replies - both of which are encouraging and time will hopefully confirm what I’m hoping for ie a stable user friendly program coz otherwise I love what VS has some for my media

Re: Beyond VS Ultimate 21 - Is It Worth It?
VideoStudio 2023 has the "out of memory" issue that causes the entire application becomes unstable.
Check https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?t=70009 for more details.
In the past, a service pack will be released at this time, including bug-fixes and stablity improvements.
But there's no patches or updates available for VS 2023 yet, which is not normal.
The old version VS 2022, doesn't have the "out of memory" issue. Its latest version is 25.3.0.584. But in my mind, some minor bugs fixed on VS 2023 are still exist.

There seems to be no reason why it has to be a "big bang" update. 2 or even 3 smaller ones immediately and in a few months, would help those using it now, and improve the image of a declining pro9duct that seems to be gaining ground.

Thanks all for your responses - I read the thread BiAnMiXiang provided above i.e. https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?t=70009
This reaffirms my suspicion therefore I'm not giving the company any further money (upgrade) as it's just throwing good after bad. The MTS issue has been very long standing as I've been laboring with it in VS since version 4. The fact that Corel has yet to resolve it speaks volumes at this stage.

I moved from 21 to 23, and for me it's been more stable, everyone's mileage will differ it seems.

Did u find VS 21 corrupted video lengths in the timeline as indicated by a blueish / greyish shading on the thumbnail and any edits eg cropping zooming had been altered? If so, has it been resolved in VS 23?
That’s one of my biggest gripes with that version

Re: Beyond VS Ultimate 21 - Is It Worth It?
Certainly looks like it … till that issue manifested, I typically had numerous videos edited in the timeline and when that blueish thingy majigga [getting technical here] occurred, the project was as good as toast coz all editing became corrupt. So what I do now, as insurance, is edit then render one video at a time and once all videos are safely rendered do I then dare bringing them together on the timeline for final render.
Re: Beyond VS Ultimate 21 - Is It Worth It?
Editing is supposed to be FUN! What you describe sounds like WORK and PTSD! Consumer, prosumer and professional grade NLEs should not behave that way.So what I do now, as insurance, is edit then render one video at a time and once all videos are safely rendered do I then dare bringing them together on the timeline for final render.

are you using the timeline to trim your clips, dragging the ends to remove frames, then maybe drag back to replace the frames.
If we now drag to far beyond the ends of the clip then duplicate frames are added, they are duplicates of the end frame.
Of course we can remove those frames again, and by using the End and Mark-out buttons
( drag the end of the clip till the blue section is gone, Hit End once followed by F4 Mark-out )

Re: Beyond VS Ultimate 21 - Is It Worth It?
Yeah, as @Lata pointed out, that blue bit shown in a clip on timeline it is indicating you have reached the end of a clip (I never pre-trim my clips before dragging into timeline, if you did set mark in and out points, then you might see this kind of thing I guess.)
