can't get preview mode to work

I have a hewlett packard 2.19 GHz pentium 4 , with a 70 GB hard drive and a Gforce FX5200 card .
I've use the DVD moviefactory 4 trial demo for about 4 weeks , i love the program , then i purchase the download version , removed all traces of the trial demo. (as per the install instructions)
Now capture works fine , but the only way i can see the preview is by moveing the shuttle slider bar back and forwards .
I have upgraded the Gforce card , defrag the hard drive , check the preview prefences , even tried reading the manual .
I downloaded the full version on sep 12 with the latest patch , i had no problems working the demo , please help . Thanks

Actually, this relates to my post about unchecking preview mode during capture. Hope someone can help as the manual isn't all that great here.

Probaly won't help much, but on one of the many times I uninstalled and reinstalled this program to get it to run properly, one time I purposley didn't install the player that comes with the software.
After I had set up my menu's etc, there was nothing in the preview screen.
Installed the player and then it worked.
