My Camcorder is set to video in 16:9 format and I am using VS 2022 and that is set at the same 16:9 however when I capture the video goes to 4:3 and I have to resize every clip. I am at a loss to understand why. Is there some way that I can resize my whole project at once. I have tried different ways but the resize will only do one clip at a time.

Re: Aspect
What are the properties and type of the video file, right click a clip for properties, you can create an image if that panel to attach to your post.
You mention "Capture the video", are you using Mini DV?
There is an option to Copy and Paste Attributes
Set the first clip to 16:9
Right click the clip for Copy Attributes
Shift click first and last clip to select all
Right click selection for Paste Attributes

Re: Aspect
If you are using Mini DV, ensure that the camcorder screen is set to 16:9 when transferring to PC.
My own experience just recently, using a Canon MVX330i, (first time I have used the Canon for 10 years) when transferring to PC using the 1394 EEE port was exactly the same as you report if the screen is set to 4:3, it appears that you can set the camera to record in 16:9 but still have the screen at 4:3, I get the impression that when transferring, it is the camera screen that is being recorded, not from the tape.

I am using my old camcorder Mini DV tapes. How can I attach the video properties to my post. I am unable to copy and paste Attributes to all my clips as it can only be done on individual clips. I must be doing it wrong.

Re: Aspect
Make sure your Project Properties are set to 16:9….Go to Settings Project Properties (Alt+Enter) there should be two options for DV/Avi, choose the 16:9 option
From the timelines select the first clip, the preview screen should show the clip as 4:3 having the yellow trim bars, if you do not see these select the Distort Tools – Scale Mode
Now right click the preview screen for Fit to Screen, this clip should look like 16:9
Back to timeline to Right click first clip for Copy Attributes
Shift Click to select last clip will select all, Right click for Paste to All.
Ok
As far as I can remember using New Mini DV tapes…. if we originally record to 4:3 those details will be saved to the tape.
Rewinding the tape does not reach the end just a few seconds short, Now start recording to 16:9 and yes that will work, but when we rewind the camera to the very beginning it reaches the 4:3 frames, just for the beginning, Capturing and all clips will be seen as 4:3 and a little distorted.
The trick is to play the tape for a few seconds passed the 4:3 bits, then the camera will show the actual 16:9 recordings and will now transfer to the pc as 16:9.
It may be best to transfer the DV-Avi again making sure you start with a 16:9 clip / frame. Try as a test to transfer 30 seconds.
If you are reusing other tapes then rewind them manually, spin the tape back to the very beginning, Then capture as 16:9 will include the header.
Oh I changed the background colour (F6) to Blue so i could easily see the frame shape from 4:3 to 16:9

Re: Aspect
Hi Trevor tried what you said but somehow not working. It seems that I can only resize one clip at a time. Will try to transfer the tapes again. This tape was only recorded using the 16:9 but will try what you proposed.

Re: Aspect
How are you transferring the footage
I assume using FireWire IEEE1394, that will transfer the tapes as .avi without any recoding.

Re: Aspect
As you are using Mini DV tapes and using FireWire IEEE1349 to transfer the footage you should choose DV as the capture format and not DVD, the latter will recode the DV to Mpeg2.
Choosing DV and the video is literally copied to the pc as dv.avi, there is no recoding therefore no changes to the video, no change in quality what you have on the tape is what you get on the pc.
If you choose DVD which of course is an option, the footage will be recoded during transfer using the mpeg2 properties set by us. Your image indicate 4:3 has been used when 16:9 was expected, the frame type appears to be progressive (frame based) when the camcorder would have used Interlacing - Lower Field First
DV.avi is quite large at 13Gb ish per hour, it is a lossless format, one that Video Studio can easily handle.
Can you try capturing again to see if DV (digital video) is indeed an option.
Typically these are the properties you should see for DV :-
