my dvd plays fine when i preview it in ulead dvd, but after i burn the dvd and play it on my tv, the aspect ratio seems to be off, i have text that goes from side to side at the bottom, well, the begining and end of the sentace is cut off, plus, the bottom of the text is cut off. its like the dvd aspect ratio is to big for the tv.
i chose standard settings to export from ulead, 4:3 mpeg2 i believe.
i captured my video from my mini dv camcorder via firewire and captured it as DV ntsc. i edited it in adobe premier and rendered it back out as DV ntsc (720x480) the entire time.
DV is 720x480, (.666) TV is 4:3 (.75) is this the problem? what can I do to get it to play correctly on the tv?
Thanks in advance for your help.
plays fine on computer in ulead dvd, when i play the dvd on

Did you add the text in Adobe or MovieFactory?
TV's overscan the picture a little bit.
In MF4 under "Preferences" (F6) -> Advanced there is a "TV Safe Area" setting as percentage.
While you are in the menu creation screen hit the F6 key -> advanced to set the "TV Safe Area".
You will see the box in the display change size, usually set to 10% for text.
Hope this helps,
MD

Could be than no one checking this Board has encountered this problemHAVOC wrote:thanks for all the replies!!!!!!
When your text appears "cut off," this means that you have crossed the TV Safe boundaries and entered into the TV Masked Zone.
The image that you see on your computer screen is NOT the same as what you see on your TV screen. ALL TV's mask a small portion of the screen image, cutting off a small bit around the edges, and, unfortunately, they all do it differently.
If you have placed your text too close to the vertical edges or too close to the bottom edge, it will be masked. In other words, though it may look just fine on a computer screen, the won't be seen in its entirety when you see the image on TV.
I don't know what version of Movie Factory you're using, but in MF3 there is a little section after you've loaded your file called "Enhance Video" which allows you to do some fancying up including the adding of text. Just below is a cropped screen capture of a project I'm working on. Around the perimeter is a line (which I've marked with yellow arrows). This is the TV Safe line. Anything placed inside the line will show up when shown on TV. Anything outside...well...you can guess.

The problem you've enountered has absolutely nothing to do with the aspect ratio. Both your camcorder and MF are working just fine. If you added your text in Premier (rather than MF), check your Help file to learn how NOT to have your text enter the masked zone.

thanks to you both for your replies. I really appreciate them.
I am using the latest ulead dvd MF, i believe its 4, i just bought it like amonth ago.
I did all my text in premiere.
I am going back into it, and fixing all the text and keeping it far away from the edges.
thanks again for your replies!
