I am thinking about upgrading from VS8 to VS9, but am concerned about some of the reports I hear about VS9 running slowly. My current hardware is OK for video editing, but certainly not state of the art: Pentium M 1.4 GHz, 32MB video, 512MB RAM, 120GB external Firewire drive, Windows XP Home.
VS9 has some features that interest me, and Ulead's promotion of the free MPEG4 plugin is very tempting. But all that won't mean anything if VS9 is more sluggish than VS8. I would give up new features in exchange for better performance any day.
Can anyone tell me of their experiences in upgrading to VS9 with hardware similar to mine? I also upgraded from MovieFactory 3 to MF4, and I noticed the newer version is noticeably slower.
