I have a project where I am using around 60 clips played one after the other. The range in length from 20 seconds to 6 minutes however most are between one and a half to two minutes. before each clip there is a black screen with some text indicating what the next clip is. A few of the clips are back to back with one another but for most there is one clip and then on to the next black screen with text and then the next clip. In total with the black screen there are 119 parts to this project which totals 126 minutes. The video clips come from different DVD recorders over the years. Therefore the properties of the source videos vary slightly.
After I made a video file I noticed that the audio was muted at the beginning on some of the video clips. When it happens it last for around a half to one second.
At first I shortened the black screens with text. Instead of having them run for 10 seconds I went to 5 seconds. That seemed to avoid the problem for some of the clips. For the clips where the problem was still there, I went back and added between a half second to a second before the start to compensate for the lag before the audio appears on the video file. That way I still get the dialogue that I want in the final result.
After checking the beginning of all of the clips I noticed that making the adjustments to some clips caused others clips to be affected the same way. When I go back and add time to those clips then other clips are affected. Also, some of the others I previously added extra time at the beginning to to account for the lag now have no delay when the audio appears the video file.
I have tried several times so far to make the adjustments to the clips that have the lag on the latest video file only to have to happen on other clips that were not previously affected on the video file.
Before I place any clip into the project I just clip the part I want from the source recording and go to Share. From there I click on MPEG-4 and select 720x480, 30p, 2.5 Mbps and uncheck Smart Render. I don't make a project just to obtain the clip I want. Then I place the clip into the project. To render the video file I again use MPEG-4 and select 720x480, 30p, 2.5 Mbps and uncheck Smart Render
Before I rendered the first video file I took great care to have all of the clips start and end exactly where I wanted them to. Since them with many of them I have had to estimate how much time to add at the beginning so that I can still hear the part of the audio I want to be included when the audio kicks in after that first half second to a second. With some clips it's not as precise as I would like when playing the video file.
When I used Smart render once I had trouble playing the video file on the computer with different players. Another time when I used Smart Render X8 crashed before it was finished. The program never crashes as long as I don't use Smart Render.

Re: Audio Briefly Muted
Hi
From your description I would think you may have used Fade in or Fade Out, unintentionally of course.
If you double click your clip to open the options panel, there are Audio settings within the Video Tab, fade ramps can be seen, if they are white then audio fade has been applied.
I think this would only occur when applying transition, as a thought have you overlapped your clips with the black clip.
I used VS X10 to check these details, do not have X8 installed.

Re: Audio Briefly Muted
Hi Lata,
I checked and both Fade in and Fade out are not white.
The clips have no transition. After each clip ends the project immediately goes to the next five seconds of black screen with text and then immediately goes to the next clip.
Unless you can think of something I didn't do properly, perhaps this is just a case of too many clips applied to one project. If I had say 10 clips with 10 black screens instead of 60 and 60 then perhaps this problem would likely be less of an issue or even non-existent.
