Color variations when editing

Post by Antois »

Setting the right color when editing a video in VideoStudio 2022 is tricky because the hue gets more yellow when you stop the video and more red when you start it again. Therefore, you don't really know what the final color will be.
In a common videoplayer (PotPlayer for instance) there are no color differences between stop and playback. So the editor player in VideoStudio is not okay. It is the most important tool in editing.

In addition, the image is often jerky not smooth while I have smart proxy on. It is not pleasant to work like this.

VideoStudio is not a professional video editor. I notice this every time I work with it.

running a quick test using VS 2022, I used the Sample Lake, Sample_360 and my own MTS video plus a jpeg image.
Applied the Hue effect to each clip, also tried other settings
I did not notice any colour shift when playing the clips in Project or Clip mode.
Are you adding other filters to the clips?

Are you able to create a sample vsp using the libraries sample files.
Zip the VSP and attach to your post, we will then see and work with the same VSP / files and effects.

Possibly I do not express myself clearly enough for you, my native language is Dutch.

It is very simple.
I put any video clip on the timeline. I start the video. As soon as I stop the video the color of the image changes, it becomes yellower. This is not supposed to happen, it makes accurate editing of the color difficult. That's all. No filters, no hue effect, just start en stop and you see that the colour changes. Unless you are color blind.

Sorry Antois I cannot replicate this anomaly......... and do not suffer from doltonism... colour blindness

I do not see a change in colour when playing the project, i try in Clip playback and Project playback

I also enlarged the screen to show in full screen yet the colours remain the same

do you think it is the type of video you are using? can you provide details..

If you use the programs Sample _Lake.mp4 does that show that change in colour.

I also wondered whether applying the opposite color filter in Preferences > Edit might have affected things. I am in a PAL country and have VS 2022 (and 2023) set for that. So I clicked on Preferences, activated that color filter at the top of the Edit tab, and changed it from PAL to NTSC. I tried a variety of video clips in the timeline (mp4, mpeg, avi, mkv) and none of them changed color in the slightest when played in Clip or Project mode. I have a 32" 4K monitor, and that definitely showed no color change -- and like lata, I am not Daltonic!

We all are right. You don't see a color shift and I do see a color shift.

The good news: it's with the video I'm editing and not with some of the other videos I've tried. So it's typically something from this video.

Not only does the color change, but the image gets also lighter as soon as you stop the video. Lighter and less red.

The bad news: this does happen in VideoStudio's player and not in PotPlayer or VLC.

I however don't expect it to happen often, but it is annoying that it does take place in the current video.

I tried a few more videos and noticed that the color shift and brightness change phenomenon occurs in more videos anyway and only in the VideoStudio player.

And now I also know when. If the bit rate of a video is higher, say 8000 or 15000 kbps then the VS player shows shifting color and brightness changes when stopping and also when playing again. At lower bitrates there is no shift.

Unfortunately, my comment at the beginning of this topic still stands.

Hopefully any other user with your problem will come in here. But so far only you seem to be the only person reporting this as a problem. The mp4 I mentioned that I played in VS 2022 was a 4K clip with a bitrate of 60,000 kbps and there was no shift in color.

Could it be a Graphics card issue, have you tried deselecting/ changing the Hardware Acceleration options. F6- Performance tab.
