Where are the color "Palettes"?

Post by Cassel »

I see the word "Palette" used for different things in the Help file, yet, I am not finding the information I need.

If I create a new Color palette, in 2023, which will then show in the Materials palette, its name will display at the bottom of the very long list of color palettes. However, I have no clue where those are saved. In the File Locations... dialog window, there is an option for "Palette" and by default, it is supposed to save in
C:\Users\User\Documents\Corel PaintShop Pro\2023\Palettes

However, nothing shows there.

I even looked here: C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2023 (64-bit)\Languages\EN\Palettes
And only see one palette (Safety), while there is a long list of other palettes in the Materials palette. So it seems to refer to something else, namely the Palette command under Image > Palette, which is NOT what I am looking for.

Where are the multiple palettes listed in the Materials palette, saved? And where are the custom ones? If I have created one custom color palette, how can I share it with someone else?
It looks like it is referring to two different things.

Looks like the ones that come with PSP are in C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2023\Corel_14

I created a Test Palette and it is located in C:\Users\kathy\Documents\My PSP Files\Swatches\Test Palette
PSPX9 | PSP2020 | PSP2021| PSP2022 | PSP2023 & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX | PSPX2 thru PSP2019 owned but not installed

Yes, Materials Swatch Palettes are just sub-folders in the Swatches folder. Similar to how a sub-folder in the brushes folder creates a separate brushes category. I can't remember how far back PSP added Swatch Color Palettes but it's been a fair while. Maybe X4 or X6.

Palettes folder is for Indexed Image Color Palettes - These are lists of 256 color indexed (from 0-255) for use in Indexed images like GIFs. These can only be used when the image color depth is set to 256 or lower. A palette can be loaded in to replace the palette in an existing image or can be used as the basis for creating images from a limited color set. Like you do with Pixel art so you're never adding an unexpected color into the mix.

Swatches palettes are sub-folders in the swatches folder.

Thanks. That explains why I could not find them under "Palette". Using the same name for something different leads to confusion.
