Paintshop Pro 2023 not production ready

Post by michaeljf »

I made the foolish mistake of purchasing Paintshop Pro 2023 after having be a long time user of the JASC flavor of the product years ago and deciding it was time to update. However, so far what I am finding is that installation is unpredictable and sometimes impossible depending on the Windows version being used. If you manage to get it installed, it crashes, hangs, and/or generally does not behavior as you might expect.

I have attempting to install on these Windows versions with mixed results, none of which leave me in a usable state:

Windows 10 - Installation completed, but PSP intermittently crashed or hung. The steps to reproduce the failure seemed random. Sometimes clicking a button, or resizing a window, or navigating through the menu. In short, it was simply unstable.

Windows 11 - Installation impossible. Failed attempts leave behind tons of Registry crap, which makes cleanup impossible. Without a full cleanup the installer will not allow you to reinstall. Corel does have a cleanup utility, which suggests they knew there were issues. Cleanup tool does seem to work: https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?t=52337

In most of my numerous attempt to install on Win11, the installation seems to stall at approximately 33% and begin to consume all the system resources. Possible memory leak?? Maybe...

I have not yet attempted to call Corel Support or Customer Service, but I suspect I may need to. Likely I will be fighting to get my money back.

Anyone else having issues getting started with PSP 2023?

You could try a reset of PSP to default on the Windows 10 system. This will correct any corruption that may have occurred during your original installation. Instructions can be found here https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?t=67616

The installation hanging is an old problem that surfaces periodically. A number of different solutions are mentioned in this older thread that may be of help (update drivers, use different system account, conflicting processes in task manager).

I have installed PSP 2023 on my Windows 11 PC with no problem. So I believe there must be something special with your PC or hardware thats causing the problem. Anyway, I rarely use PSP anymore as I mainly has switched to a program that is very cheap, has more and better features and a much better user interface. The name of the program starts with an A...

@michaeljf You installed this on a Windows 10 computer and also on a Windows 11 computer?
Your profile shows that you have Dell system with a "HP Levano" motherboard.
I am not familiar with that configuration. Is your computer compatible with Windows 11 or did you upgrade it "on your own".
Perhaps there are some OS compatibility issues going on with PSP 2023 that are not completely the fault of PSP 2023.
