Twist part of object

Post by edsager »

Hello,

I have a logo which consists of 3 triangles with angles of 30-60-90. I want to animate the triangles in a banner for my website so the triangles rotate around all 3 axes from right to left one at a time.

At the end of their tumbling routine, the triangles come to a stop with one on top of the other, but also with each subsequent triangle having moved "up" the Y-axis so that the triangles which are "behind" another are partially visible.

The above I have done successfully...it is the next part which confuses me.

The right-angle of each triangle is at the bottom left. I want each triangle's right-angle to twist together so that the triangles are connected by the twisted bottoms. Each triangle is a different color (blue, purple, orange), so the twisting would look like a multi-colored twisty soft ice cream cone.

Every time I try and twist only the bottoms (i.e., the right-angles), I cannot seem to get a uniform twist so that all triangles are tied together by their twisted parts. I have been adding points and trying to use the Bezier lines to twist. I also tried the twist/rotate function already in C3DPS, but that warps/twists the entire triangle, not just part of it.

Can anyone help me to twist my right-angle triangle bottom? (I cannot help but laugh at how that sounds, but I am serious.)

If C3DPS is not the appropriate program to do this with, can I do it with PhotoImpact? Any other program anyone would recommend?

Thank you,

Yes, but my demo time ran out before I started on my logo.

Any other suggestions?

Maya is a beautiful piece of software, but very expensive.

Am I out of luck with trying to do my project in C3DPS?

Thanks,

Have you tried the Freeform function? It is a little difficult to understand and documentation on it is sparse, but will a little playing around you might be able to achieve the effect that you are after.
