Rounding the image

Post by Antois »

Maybe someone can tell me how to turn a rectangular photo into a round shape. I use Corel Paintshop 2019 and 2021. I prefer the 2019 edition because of all changes in control which come wit newer versions.

Thank you for your time.

That depends on what you mean.

Easiest way would be to grab the selection tool, set it to ellipse, drag the selection over your image, invert it, and then delete. You now have a circle shape and deleted pixels. Depending on if you had a raster layer or background layer those pixels have either become transparent or were filled with your background color.

You can also use masks, vectors, picture frames, etc. Lots of different ways to approach this. Vectors have the shape cutter option which lets you use a vector shape to crop and cut-out an area of the image and create a new image from it in the shape of the vector shape.

The most flexible and constantly editable and non-destructive would be to create a vector ellipse to represent the frame you want to use. You can use the shape cutter preview to see what it would look like. Then you create a selection from the vector object, and add a mask showing the selected area. You can now edit this mask endlessly by drawing on it like any canvas. Black hides areas, white reveals areas of the image under the mask. You can also use the move tool to move the mask around to center it just a bit more on your subject if you want to test moving the circle into different areas of the image.

If you're talking about distorting the image onto like a 3D ball or bubble, that requires a different approach.

Thank you for your quick reply. I'll try the easiest way. I have no experience in this.
