Hey y'all,
New to Corel VideoStudio Ultimate 2023 (or any other previous version). Thought I'd give it a go since my Kinemaster subscription jumped to $150 a year from a tenth of that. Been a user of PSP since it was created and enjoyed the simplicity of that.
But I'm not having a good time with the VideoStudio. Basic things like applying a filter / effect to a particular time window of a video clip or an image frame. I want to sync the effect with the music. Super simple in kinemaster, you just add the effect to a new timeline, shrink it, expand it, and move it. I can't work out how to do this on VideoStudio and have been through several tutorials.
Any ideas appreciated.
Cheers
Moony
Adding effects to a small part of a longer video clip or image clip? Trying to sync with music.

Not sure , if I am describing your exact use case, but I often copy a clip I want to effect into the next overlay, then apply the filter to the overlay clip only. Then I trim it from the front up to the "in" point, and then I go add motion to the overlay. I only touch the opacity in the motion setting. start the overlay opacity at about 10% and quickly ramp to 100% to bring the new effect/filter in. So the original is still underneath, but the modified copy fades in on top of it at any point I want it to start coming in at.
Hope I read that right.

Hi Zaph, thank you, that should work but wow what a hassle if you adding multiple effect to go with the beat or music tempo changes. In Kinemaster you just added the effect to its own timeline exactly where you wanted it and resized it. Literally less than a minute of work for a 3 minute video.
If I could figure out how to move the keyframes around in the FX / filter settings that could work but I can't seem to move them, only insert new ones between the beginning and end keyframes. This is where I thought I might be able to do it. I'll keep trying and give you example a go.
Thank you.

Re: Adding effects to a small part of a longer video clip or image clip? Trying to sync with music.
I have found that sometimes I'll apply an effect and keyframe the effect using the effect's editor. and then want to shorten the clip duration, with the result being keyframes for the effect get scrunched up, and any pops or bangs I keyframed will also move. I've never seen Kinemaster, but I'm guessing that sometimes VS is really aimed at simpler edits. VideoStudio becomes rather sluggish and unstable when I go mad with effects anyway - and I use that as a sign that I need to be more simple in my edits. Good luck though.
