Adding Transitions
Hi all,
I have a few small projects I'm working on where I have, in each case, 20-30 short shots captured on a FlipHD and I want to add a transition (Adorage) between each of the clips.
Is there a way to add a transition between all of the clips in one go, rather than one by one?
Thanks in advance

Re: Adding Transitions
If it's going to be the same transition, then in Preferences go to the Edit tab, and down at the bottom tick the box beside 'Automatically add transition effect' and on the next line designate which transition is to be the default. Mind you, this is only effective before you start inserting images or videos in the timeline.

Re: Adding Transitions
If you right click any transition within the library there is an option to add transition to all clips.

Re: Adding Transitions
Thanks Trevor. I have never been aware of that before! I had seen, on right clicking a transition, that in the dropdown menu, it says 'Apply current effect to video track' but had assumed that it meant simply that that transition would be applied once. There was nothing else in that dropdown menu to suggest it would be applied to all transitions. However, when I actually tried it, I got a dialogue box saying there were a number of transitions in the timeline, and asking whether I wanted the selected transition to be applied to all of them.
I might add (in my own defence) that I am very frugal in the use of transitions. One of the very first things I do with any installation of VS over many years, is -- as I suggested in my first post above -- to automatically apply a transition in Preferences, and always designate crossfade as the default transition. It is only in about 1% of cases that I will use another transition. So the question posed by detectingdavid never arises in my projects...

Re: Adding Transitions
While using VS2018 and VS2021 in the Transition library I see a small 'thumbnail' (white) right on top of all transitions.
If you highlight the thumbnail you will see 'Apply random effect(s) to video track....and voila if you have numerous clips on video track, random transistions will be added...
Also under preferences clicking Edit tab I have the choice of customizing the random effects; at that point you can choose which transitions you want to use.(It takes a while to untick the transitions you do not want to use )

Re: Adding Transitions
Ken,
I read your comments about setting transition effect before inserting images. unfortunately, I already have inserted my images (almost 150) and wonder if there is another method to increase the transition time without starting over again. Appreciate your assistance.

Re: Adding Transitions
I'm sorry, but I am only aware of changing the timing one transition at a time. If there is a method of doing it once for all transitions I am not aware of it, and hope someone who does will tell us how.

Re: Adding Transitions
The only option would be to drag all images to the library as a copy.
Remove the images from the timeline.
Set the Preferences to the new durations, then drag the images back to the timeline
Of course all images would have to run concurrently.
You could first save the project as a copy to test this.
Mind you by now you have probably updated the project
