VS 2023 Ultimate Adding to timeline 10 hr limit
I experience a strange behaviour to my project. I opened a saved project with a duration of 30 minutes. When I started working on it, a popup message came up saying "Your project has exceeded the 10 hour limit. Please trim the project.
There is nothing added in any of the layers, main overlay, music, voice or text tracks whatsoever. If I scrub until the end of the project the timeline shows just under 10 hours, while the project time itself shows 5 hours 8 sec.
There is nothing I can trim off as it's all blank layers. I cannot edit further or playback the current content as the message just pops up every time. I deleted the end clip, to see if that will help, but nothing happened. I also said remove all gaps for incase there were any gaps but that also did nothing.
Hope someone can help here.
See the screen shots added here.

Re: VS 2023 Ultimate Adding to timeline
Have you checked that there are no orphan clips at the 5hr 8min 50sec mark on any track

And when you get to the 5 hour 8 second point, make sure you expand your timeline so that you can see frame by frame. Sometimes the orphan clips that Robert mentions are only one or two frames long and would only show up as a barely visible line if your view of the timeline is not zoomed in enough.

Re: VS 2023 Ultimate Adding to timeline
I tried so many things, disabled ripple editing and adding a coloured clip into main layer up to10 hours. Then activated ripple editing and deleted that long clip so it can delete any other clips in overlays, but it did not change the project duration.
The duration is showing now 5:52:08:004 while it still shows a 10 hour timeline. (see attached image). You will notice that it does not show anything in the layer when zoomed in to the fullest.
What I discovered is that the problem is with Overlay 1. When I disable Overlay 1 Track I can play back and edit and the project size shows 30 min correctly. So at least I can edit further but it still not working correctly.
Since I bought the new version I also made 2 small other projects without any problems.
Thanks for your help so far.

Re: VS 2023 Ultimate Adding to timeline
Just as a side note, I have a new laptop and added 16GB extra ram today as I constantly got messages "out of memory". In never experienced that in any previous versions of VS and my old PCs. I contacted Dell but they could not help me. The project that I did when I received the message was only 8 minutes long and had far less complicated than my other projects that I did in the past. I must say I am not impressed with this new PC that is so highly recommended by many.

Hi Luna
Load your project then change to the Storyboard View (not Timeline View).
Scroll down to and click on the very last entry in the list, then change back to the Timeline View...it will take you to the very last asset entry on the Timeline.
Delete it and return to the beginning of your project. Recheck the project length. Is it not what you expect?

Re: VS 2023 Ultimate Adding to timeline
Hi
Out of Memory, I have never seen that message on any of my VS programs, except today.
Using 2023, project about 30 minutes long, just trimming clips.
When I did File Save up popped that message, totally surprised .........
Anyway, below the preview screen are navigation buttons the End button should move the cursor to the right, a few presses should find the end of the project, so where does your cursor go?
I would suggest yu create a copy of your project whilst you try to fix, just in case it really messes up

I enabled that Overlay 1 track, then went to storeyboard view and deleted last entry, changed back to timeline and it was still showing 5hour duration. The last clip was the one at the end of the main track at 30 minutes.

Re: VS 2023 Ultimate Adding to timeline
Hi Trevor, I am glad to hear you also experienced the out of memory issue, but sad that I had to buy 32GB Ram and had to lose my 16GB brand new Ram as you can only install it in pairs. I also discovered that even if you get this annoying message it still saves your project to the point you want to save.
When I press the End button it jumps to the 10hour mark, and nothing is in the layers.
Another thing that happened was when I moved clips on the Overlay 1 track it won't move immediately and then later, I saw them showing up on the original places as an overlay during playback, but it was invisible on the track, so when it showed on the screen as an overlay, I clicked on the layer and moved it on the next overlay where I could see it and delete it. Very strange it's like when you drag them it leaves a copy still there. (But there is no chance that there was anything on the layer at 10 hours, when I added the clips it could not be more than 50 minutes or so)
Yes I already saved a copy by the name "Struggling" on which I do all these "trials". But I guess I will just disable that faulty overlay track and keep on editing there are only four items on that track, so I moved them to Overlay 2 already.

Re: VS 2023 Ultimate Adding to timeline
Very unusual problem especially with the clock displays.
Can you zip and attach your vsp project file to your post, certainly would like to have a look at this.
I wont be able to see your video as everything will need re-linking, .
Late in UK so would be tomorrow, even so would be good to have a go

Hi Trevor I'm still struggling to find the problem nearly 12 here as well. If I can't see anything I'll sent the VSP. Thankslata wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 10:21 pm Very unusual problem especially with the clock displays.

Re: VS 2023 Ultimate Adding to timeline
The problem is solved. I managed it by using the buttons below preview window again and could see the missing piece of a video clip on the preview screen. I deleted the clip and then did a test to see what caused the issue.
I probably moved a video clip on the overlay track, but by mistake resized it beyond its limits (too small). That orphan clip that you referred to.
So I tested it with an image and video clip by resizing it from right to left dragging it too far to the left. If you do that it expands the project to a 10 hour project. The difference is when you do this with an image, the image will show in the overlay to the end, while a video clip does not show up at all even when zoomed in fully.
See attached image.
Thanks for everyone's help I appreciate it.

Re: VS 2023 Ultimate Adding to timeline
Thanks for that
Dragging trim bar from the right to left expanded the clip to 10 hours, wow, now I set the “Fit Project in timeline” to view the full clip. Then a drag from left to right reduced it to 1 frame sat at 10 hrs.
Your first image, first post, showed the line below the preview screen with your clips in white and the rest black, that I cannot replicate, nor understand the 5 hour reference, does not matter anyway.
Good that you have located the rogue clip and better that you know how it can happen.
I’ll pass this on to the Video Studio development team.
