Hello all,
I have recently purchased a Gopro11 and I can't upload any of the videos to videoshop. They just appear as a rectangle with the top half grey and the bottom half white and do not play. I have added the new HEVC codac which didn't help. I have also tried converting them, which didn't help. I am running the latest videostudio 2022. Please help.

Hi
and welcome to the forums
Ken Berry is our go to guy when it comes to GoPro, I believe he owns a GoPro 9 camera certainly more knowledgeable regarding GoPro
If you are able to share a sample with us we could try using on our systems, I am sure Ken will also find that useful.
You would have to upload to a sharing site, Google Drive, One Drive Dropbox etc.

Re: Can't load Gopro11 footage
That is indeed a HEVC H.265 video -- and I hate to tell you, but it plays perfectly and smoothly in my VS 2022. I am attaching a screenshot just to show you it inserts fine into both the VS library and timeline. When inserting it into the timeline, I even got the question whether I wanted to match the Project Properties with those of the clip.
Since you say you have inserted the HEVC extension, which should allow you to play that clip in VS, I am not sure what to suggest. Did you reboot the computer after inserting that extension?
The only other thing is that you have the camera set to film in what is called 5.3K. Your frame size is 5312 x 2988 which is significantly higher than 4K. 4K is demanding enough of computer resources and in itself would probably require you to use the VideoStudio feature called SmartProxy which makes a much lower resolution copy ("proxy") of the original video. This should play smoothly and be easily editable, and then when you are ready to share, the edits are applied to the 5.3K original. You haven't told us much about your computer resources, so it just might be possible they are not up to handling a demanding format like 5.3K. But at least try making proxies: in Preferences go to the Performance tab and at the top of that enable SmartProxy. Then wait a little since the creation of the proxy clip takes time.
Finally, have you fully updated VS 2022. There have been some updates and the current build is 25.3.0.584.
If you can't get the H.265 to work, then if you look at the GoPro settings, you can swap from H.265 to the H.264 codec which should work. You might also want to think about lowering the resolution from 5.3K to 4K (4096 x 2160) or even HD (1920 x 1080)...

Your video plays perfectly well on my PC,without the need of creating proxy files
This PC is considerably below the firepower of Ken's PC, so what are your PC specifications

Re: Can't load Gopro11 footage
Thanks Ken and Robert.
The video plays perfectly on my pc and through other programs but just won’t load into VS.
I have tried the smart proxy and it didn’t help (unless I did not wait long enough?)
I do have the most updated version and I have tried hand break app to lower resolution and that works but the video quality is blurry.
I have even tried uninstalling and reinstalling VS And have reset many times!
I will definitely lower the resolution for next time but really wanted to make a video of my last holiday so looking for a work around!
I have HP ENVY x360 Convertible
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 2600U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx 2.20 GHz
16G ram (15 usable)
64 bit, x64 based processor
Windows 10 v 22H2

Re: Can't load Gopro11 footage
One possibility might be to insert the video into a video converter to produce a version that VS might be able to see. A freeware converter a number of us here use is called Handbrake. Install that. I have to say, though, that I don't know if it will accept 5K video.
EDIT: I just used Handbrake and successfully converted your file to a full HD 1920 x 1080 video. The quality looks pretty good too, as it should being downconverted from a much higher format. I am attaching a screenshot of Handbrake with your video in it, so you can see the settings I used. Handbrake will produce a new video with the .m4v extension. That may not make any sense to you, but it is in fact an mp4 file and VS can read and edit it. So at least you should be able to make your video, then reset your GoPro as I suggested above.
By the way, to get your video into Handbrake either have a reduced version of File Explorer open on the same screen as Handbrake and drag your video from Explorer and drop it in the preview screen of Handbrake. OR use the Handbrake menu along the top and select File > Open Source and navigate to where your video is stored.

Thanks Ken,
It’s so strange. I used handbrake and the video converts and looks good quality but as soon as I add it to VS it is blury! I just don’t understand why it’s just not working.

Re: Can't load Gopro11 footage
i converted to .mkv in handbrake and whilst there is some minor pixelation, when rendered, (Same as Project Settings) the quality is very good
