Can I install my old copy of VS2018 onto my new Desktop
I had VS2018 installed on my previous desktop. I was quite happy with it. Can I install VS2018 onto my new desktop? Can it co-exist with my VS2022 installation? Will I stuff things up if I try to install VS2018 onto a my desktop which already has VS2022 installed? Is there a thread/topic/resource you can point me to that helps explain 'how to' and pros & cons?

There is no need for a 'how to'. You just install it. All versions of VS are stand alone, even those you might have bought at upgrade prices. The only limitation is that you won't be able to run VS 2018 when you are already running VS 2022, and vice versa i.e. you can't have two versions open at the same time.
Some of us here have multiple versions of PSP which we keep installed for various reasons, including where we think one earlier version does some particular thing better than the later versions. I assume there is some sort of consideration like this for you in wanting to install VS 2018 as well as 2022.

Yes, there are 2 considerations. Firstly in my experience Mercalli Pro worked (as advertised) in VS2018 and I didn't encounter any issues whereas in VS2022 there is a bug with Mercalli Pro in certain circumstances. Allot (90%+) of my footage is from a hand held camcorder so it's important to me to be able to stabilize the footage. The second consideration is a more general one in that I found VS2018 to be less prone to crashes than VS2022 and in general less 'buggy'.
So I guess I just re-use the serial number from the 2018 install? Will I encounter an issue having 2 copies of VS2018, 1 on my new PC and another on my old PC? Do I have to first uninstall VS2018 from my old PC?

Hi
The End User Licence Agreement (EULA) allows us to install one copy of your program on one machine.
If that machine is replaced or broken then we are allowed to install the program again on a new machine.
If we try to install on a second machine we will get a strange looking registration panel, inserting our registered e-mail address should allow us to continue with the installation, effectively we have installed the program twice. How Corel police that is debatable.
Over the years Corel have updated the registration processes I believe in an attempt to combat piracy.
Read the EULA, like all other documents may be a little hard to understand, maybe complicated as other Corel products can be installed on more than one machine.
Installing different versions of Video Studio should be done in oldest first, at least that is our recommendation so that any shared plugins use the latest versions, if that makes sense. MyDVD, MCCL, most of the ProDad stuff can be affected.
I had 2018 installed, only the Main program yet it has all the ProDad plugins available from 2022 / 2023
Now as a test I am installing the rest of 2018 to see what effect the Bonus Features have on my programs.
Mercalli now has version 2.0 installed along side Mercalli Pro, this also is available using 2022 / 2023, I assume it is Mercalli 2.0 that you need to use.

I want to avoid re-installing VS2022 at this stage (after installing VS2018). I'm in the middle of a project where I had to import over 6,000+ clips [taken over various years] which took a few+ hours to do then had to proxy them all which took 2+ hours. I not excited about having to do that again any time soon.
Just to clarify, at this stage you haven't yet assessed if installing VS2018 after VS2022 will adversely affect VS2022? Am I reading that right?I had 2018 installed, only the Main program yet it has all the ProDad plugins available from 2022 / 2023
Now as a test I am installing the rest of 2018 to see what effect the Bonus Features have on my programs.
Can I just copy the VS2018 Mercalli2.0 plugin from my old PC to the New PC and drop it into the same folder as the rest of the Mercalli plugins? Will that work?Mercalli now has version 2.0 installed along side Mercalli Pro, this also is available using 2022 / 2023, I assume it is Mercalli 2.0 that you need to use.

Before you install anything, be aware that we cannot open project created with 2022 with any earlier versions.
If you install 2018 then you would have to start yor project as new.
When i tried Mercalli 2.0 the version provided with 2018, with 2022 there was a crosshair showing over the video, that makes M 2.0 useless.
There is another Mercalli provided with 2022, not sure of the name, Mercalli RT, not on my pc to check the name.
Seems to work without analysing, I have not used this option so cannot comment on how it performs

Got it, thanks. Before you install anything, be aware that we cannot open project created with 2022 with any earlier versions.

When i tried Mercalli 2.0 the version provided with 2018, with 2022 there was a crosshair showing over the video, that makes M 2.0 useless.

That does sort of negate one of my main drivers for installing VS2018.
I have tried Mercalli RT, the stabilisation is okay but not as good as Mercalli Pro but also the picture quality is not as crisp/sharp. It reminds me of the "anti shake"? FX in the older versions of Corel which just dull the picture. There is another Mercalli provided with 2022, not sure of the name, Mercalli RT, not on my pc to check the name. Seems to work without analysing, I have not used this option so cannot comment on how it performs
