Good morning everyone, it's me, Calayugan Kings,

This issue of constant crashing of Corel Video Studio 2023 can be reduced for me on Windows 11, but the faults do exist deep within untested code, which is C++. There are hundreds of scenarios which are not tested by Corel, as it is very expensive and difficult for any normal programmer to find and fix defects.

For me, on my professional machine, I am able to reduce crashing in few of ways, as follows.

1. In Windows 10 or 11, you will have temporary files spooled out by Corel during video editing of any kind. Once the session stops, you need to take a look at these files, are remove the garbage. To do that, go into Windows Explorer and type %temp% right in the address bar, then delete everything there. Select skip and check the box to skip everything locked. You will see files named "CUH_ServerDump2-7.txt", for example. Any of those bigger than zero bytes can be viewed just to get the feel of what's inside. Corel can sometimes use that.

2. Next, use Windows Task Manager to make sure no more stray or errant Corel Video Studio 2023 Ultimate executables are running. Sometimes, on a hang, you will see Corel Video Studio pulling in more and more memory and using more and more CPU. If there are stray elements like that, simply STOP them using the Task Manager. To get to Task Manager, right-click on your menu task bar at the bottom of Windows.

3. The repair tool being described only patches errant elements in the registry, which essentially tells Windows about information needed to make sure there is no obsolete code being referenced from the main Corel Video Studio Executable.

4. Next, check your configuration settings for Corel too, by using the Main Menu element "Settings" and the submenu "Preferences". Also, carefully inspect your the Project Configuration and the Proxy. These can all make a big difference in crash frequency. The Proxy system itself will render data for usage, and it has folders designed for that, so you can check to see if the configured folders are actually getting populated. The Proxy system is designed to save time, because when you are scrubbing you don't need to see extremely high-quality rendering in the Preview Window.

5. Note that the Corel Video Studio documentation contains no details on Settings and not much on configuration, but you can choose to turn off all the features you don't use. For example, if you are not using "Media Library Animation", turn it off. I turn off the Automatic Save mode myself, because I simply key in <CTRL-S> every 15 seconds, or after every operation. It's a habit now.

6. Further to configuration, the "Working Folder" and "Audio Working" settings folders don't seem to materialize anything, but I changed them to see what they do. Nothing easy to figure out, and nothing broke. The working folder means what? My input files, or the location of their files?

7. For the Proxy System, the Proxy Folder user-configured DOES seem to work, and you can enable proxy for anything bigger than just slightly below your chosen output settings. Like, if you want to try the Proxy, set it to activate on anything above 1440 x 1080 if you are using 1920 x 1080.

Notes:
--------
The entire Corel Video Studio Ultimate Application is based on the standard Visual C++ Architecture, with the Microsoft Native Code Libraries (DLL's) being referenced. Corel Video Studio 2023 Ultimate uses many data files too; some are temporary, some are permanent. Corel wrote the application code - it uses the Microsoft Libraries on Windows, and it uses things like COM (Component Objects), DCOM (Distributed COM), COM+, and also the Apple QuickTime Bridge, which is 32-Bit technology needed by the VideoStudio Track editor and all it's various permutations.

In the 2023 version, Corel added a bunch of other items to the memory space of Video Studio. One is the WebView2 set of codes, which is very likely geared to capture issues from the resulting text files during a crash. I have no idea what it really is for.

Every element of sound and transition has to be "rendered", meaning the contents of files containing things like audio, transitions, configurations, 3D titles, and other elements must be loaded into the memory spaced that is accessible by the Preview Window and all of the Scrubbing tracks. So, when you are scrubbing, you will notice that the interactive session will pause briefly while "rendering" is being accomplished. The more elements you have on the Scrubber tracks, the more work has to be done. If you are using the Proxy, time taken should be reduced, but no guarantees, as Corel cannot spend a lot of time testing massive projects.

There are hundreds of "moving parts" in this package. So, the problem is associated with testing and the source code. It is very doubtful that the moderator of this forum is a C++ programmer who can make modifications and test it. This is a huge, massive task. So my suggestion is to KISS. Keep it simple. If you want commercial-level video editing, spend the money. If not, learn how to work around the defects.

Hello, i have videostudio 2023 pro, the program crashes when I switch to capture. I renamed the ulead system folder to ulead system_Old but that didn't help either, even repairing the program did not help. Can you help me somehow? I don't feel like always solving something anymore

Hi all,
I just joined this forum because i experience crashes with VS 2023 and earlier also with older versions. 'Out of memory' is a familiar message, while not all of the 16GB available is actually in use. Crashes happen in various situations, i have not been able to really see a pattern or find things to avoid. Well, perhaps there is one pattern, things seems to get worse if the installation on your computer becomes older.

Reading the stories in this thread makes me think that the product is actually not market ready, has too many bugs to hope for real improvement over the coming years. Is anybody using VideoStudio for serious work without having problems?
I have used VS for occasional small jobs, but am now considering to do video editing more frequently. Should i move to another video editing product and which ons is known to be more stable? No need for very fancy web, AR, VR or whatever stuff, just good editing capabilities for video and photo images.

I am having the same problem with VideoStudio Ultimate 2023.
I start the program and it disappears (crashes).
I uninstalled it - used the cleaner utility - reinstalled from the download link.
Crashes just like before.
Anyone else with this issue.

Many are having issues with Visual Studio 2023. Many are experiencing crashes and receiving 'out of memory' messages. These crashes happen mostly after about the 3-5 saves (or save as). Unfortunately, it seems the product is NOT ready for the general market, being plagued by this one bug that could be solved by one bugfix update.

Switching to another product may be the right choice for me. However, before deciding, I will research to find a stable and reliable video editing product. If VS would stop this silly error, I could put up with other editor crashes or bugs -by just saving frequently! However, because I cannot save my work without 'out of memory' messages, it is unfortunately unusable. All of this happened after upgrading to Ultimate which continued to with the same problem. BAD programming is BAD.

Hi Elan
and welcome to the forums

If you feel that the Ultimate version is causing these closures then you could try re-installing without installing the bonus package.
Run the program to see if that improves things.
You could now if you wish install the Bonus Package to install the Ultimate.

You do not say what type of video files you are working with, I use MTS and MP4 types both recorded using camcorder and camera, crashes are few to none, I guess I am just lucky.
Video from tablets, Iphones can cause problems for Video Studio as they may use a variable frame rate.

As for VS 2023 updates, if history repeats itself Release and Updates usual happen in February, A little time to wait but hopefully fixing the problems for VS
