MSP7.3 Video paint no-worky anymore

Post by kurtmo »

I've been using MSP 7.3 and associated video paint for months. Last night I finished a little rotoscoping, left video paint and now it won't load. Video edit runs normally as does CG Infinity. When I try to run Paint, I see the MSP splash briefly, then nothing. Paint shows briefly in process list in task mgr. then leaves. I never get the microsoft error screen or anything giving me a thread to go on. I checked event log without seeing anything unusual. I'd recently installed RealPlayer, so I booted that. Then I tried system restore, but no old system restore points were available (makes me a bit suspicious, but no other virus signals). Finally, I tried to repair MSP7 (no worky anything anymore) then uninstalled MSP 7, reinstalled MSP 7, added the service pack. Now I'm back to MSP edit OK, paint no-worky. Any thoughts? I sent in a tech request too, and am waiting on that response.

I'm not aware of any system config changes I made between worky and no-worky.

Thanks in advance for support (technical or moral appreciated.)

I succeeded in getting paint back online. I thought others may be interested in case they bump into a similar bug. I scoured the registry to no avail. Then a clue hit me after the third reinstall. I finally tried logging in as another user on my PC. To my delight javascript:emoticon(':o')
Surprised Paint ran like a champ (at least the kids Star Wars movie would be back in production.)

My PC also had the problem with audio filters hanging at 85%. The fix there is to edit the MSP.ini file in the user application config files. It dawned on me that one of the other user config files must have become corrupted during my previous edit session and the config files were persistant accross reinstalls. Turned out to be the case.

I blew away my config files and copied in the ones from another user profile.

Now I'm rocking and rolling again.

Happy editing all! :D
