VideoStudio video/audio sync issues

Post by mwinterer »

I have an issue with audio and video being out of sync. I have seen this discussed where I should split the video and audio then mix them together. This seems to be unwieldy. Also I checked the original MP4 video and it is not of sync.

I basically:
1. Imported an hour long video with included audio. This is an inspirational talk of an hour long with the actual talk of around 20-25 minutes length.
2. Split up and cut portions out of the video in order to create a smaller summary of the original for posting online.
3. I added transitions
4. Added an overlay
5. For each clip that I ended up with I did a speech to text to create subtitles.
6. My resulting edited video is just under 3 minutes length for online posting. Most people will watch a 3 minute video if it appears interesting but not one an hour long.

I am new to this program and I went back and forth between splitting the video, adding transitions, subtitles and an overlay. Somewhere along the way the later video clips started showing sync issues with the audio. That is the first half or so of the 20 pieces of clips were not out of sync but the later sections began have sync issues. I can redo the entire process but my questions are

1. Why did this sync issue happen when the original did not have a problem
2. Can this be fixed without separating the audio and video portions of each clip and playing around with that.
3. I can reload the video and go through the process again but knowing what may have caused the sync issue to happen hopefully will allow me to avoid the problem.

Hi mwinterer
And welcome to the forums
Your audio stream is embedded along with the video stream and should not go out of sync by simply cutting the clip.
You do not give any indication of the videos properties, right click a clip and choose properties, what are they, you could create a screen shot of that panel to attach to your post.

You do say that the sync seems to get worse as you progress through the clip, that may be an indication of variable frame rates.
If your video is using a variable frame rate that that could be the problem, general frame rates would be 25, 50, 29.97, 30, 60 fps.

I will have to look into this more. I have a workaround. I used another piece of software to clip the hour long video to the 20 minutes that I needed to review and edit further and that bypasses the audio sync issue. I am currently working through another issue with the install where I had both the paid and the trial version installed. I am removing and reinstalling several times but so far no luck and the program will not run at all at this point.

It happens when I import an hour long video under the 2022 version. I had an installation problem and realized I needed to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 in order for the new 2023 version to work. I will try again under the new Windows 10 to see if that is actually the issue.

If re-installing Video Studio fails to launch try using the Cleanup tool to remove the program

If your video is using a variable frame rate then that may be the cause of the audio shift
are you able to provide the properties of your video
Right click the video on the timeline or library for Properties, what are they
You can create a screen shot of that panel, save as an image to attach to your post
