I'm using Corel Video Studio Ultimate version X9. It was working perfectly up until yesterday when I got a an error message. After receiving that message, my Video Studio fails to open. Instead, I get a loud "ding" then the screen displays the opening screen, but it fails to respond to any action.
--What has caused this error?
--How do I fix it?
I can't solve the problem, although I've tried many things.
Here's the vaguely-worded error message:
Please, help.

You say you have tried many things to fix this, if you were to tell us what you have tried we would not go over old ground.
Have you tried resetting the program by renaming the “19.0” folder to “19.0_old”
A new 19.0 will be created when running the program.
The folder should be here:-
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\19.0

Re: Corel Video Studio X9 - Get all items failed, result = 100
Hi, lata. Thank you for replying.
First of all, I can't re-list all the things I've tried. Number 1, I don't recall each of them. Number 2, No matter what I've tried, NONE of them worked. I can say that the things I've tried were in vain anyway, so there's no sense (to me) to go back over those things.
Note: I used the "URL path" which you provided for me (to change the Folder name. It did nothing, so I copied my original "19_Old" version back again and deleted the new "19.0". Then I restarted my computer which resulted in the same error pop-up. Of course, the only "19.0" I have in use now is the original one.
What I was hoping for is that someone here on the forum can tell me what that error message means and was it sent by Corel Video Studio, or Microsoft. Does the "=100" stand for the PID (DOS registry code), or not?
Also, I'd love a step-by-step procedure to follow in using a TOOL built-in to Video Studio which might have its own copy (a "backup") of things that used to work. Maybe there's something like that for emergencies like mine. Even Video Studio must have a "copy" of something, somewhere, to restore the VS Program back to a working order? --I can't find such a thing.
Also, I noticed that Microsoft sent an Update to my system recently --with my consent! That update eliminated all of my own personal backups. They no longer exist, otherwise I'd use one of them to get back to an earlier version (a day or so) before this situation happened. It makes angry that Microsoft eliminates my personal files, leaving me with what they think is best. Ha ha.
Please, don't give up on me.
Thanks again,
Larry

Re backups:
- always always keep an off-line copy of any backups you do. Once made, copy to an external drive, then disconnect it from the PC. That way MS-induced accidents can be avoided. If needed, reconnect the external drive to the PC and start a recovery operation.
If you have not done anything to the PC since the MS update - eg delete files etc - then the backups may be accessible if you undo the recent MS changes: win10 on the updates page has an undo updates link, select that and there is a list of the MS updates by name and date. rt-clck on one and an uninstall option appears. choose that to uninstall the particular update. Always start with the most recent one.
Alternatively go to one of the windows help pages or community websites and pose the question.

Re: Corel Video Studio X9 - Get all items failed, result = 100
Thanks, lata.
I've had several (4 or more!) WD External backup drives. Each one failed within 1 year of the purchase. That means I lost everything I had backed up! I got tired of spending so much money on External drives, I just stopped doing that. Besides, they are all made in China. The cost is now higher and the quality has vanished completely! To me, they all seem like "junk!" Western Digital used to offer a "7-year warranty." Now, it doesn't. Years ago I bought a "Flash Drive" little thingy. I keep most of my files, pictures, etc. on it and --it still works! It just won't hold major applications.
As far as using the Windows Restore feature (in the Control Panel/Personalization), I've done that with older restore points and they work only if my computer is on-line (connected to the Internet). None of them have solved the issue I am having because the data they use is NOT localized on my computer. So, even after I use a far earlier version of a "manual" backup, Microsoft starts loading all kinds of crap and other more recent files --automatically and without any advance notice! When they do that, it re-corrupts my application, again! That's why I didn't even mention them to you earlier. Geesh.
Does your last sentence indicate that no will no longer help me?

I may have to remove then reinstall my Video Studio X9 Ultimate application, again. I'm not sure how to do that at my age (77). I remember that it is a very convoluted process. And, I want to use Version X9.

A usb stick is an external drive, when plugged in. You just need to ensure it has sufficient capacity for a backup, and when done it is easily removed.
As for HDD, most drive makers offer several levels of reliability: WD for example starts at green, goes to Blue and Black is or was the most reliable of those offered for home use. Red may lately have taken that crown, but red seems aimed at servers rather than home use. I have 3x500Gb WD black drives in my desktop, and they are all more than 6 years old, still going strong. But I back them up regularly - just in case. Once - last year - a software corruption actually destroyed an SSD used for C; with that hardware in place the PC flatly would not even try to start. The other HDD were all fine.
As to 'made in china", SE Asia as a manufacturing source has been the norm for the last 30 years: Philipines, Indonesia, Malaysia, China have all at one time cornered the manufacturing market. The designs come from elsewhere. If you buy cheap, you can expect a reliability issue at some point: nothing lasts forever. You can ensure that the life of a drive is the best possible by ensuring that the drive space in the desktop is properly ventilated: smart parameters on some of my drives consistently showed operating temps in the 40's, so one summer a few years ago I installed an additional 6in fan right at the front of my system case, and mounted the drives with one space between them immediately behind it, thus ensuring that all their external surfaces were exposed to the airflow. That one measure dropped the internal drive temps to about 38-39deg C.

Thanks Asik1
Hi Old_Friend
Yes you should re-install Video Studio X9. -- 7 easy steps.
Although I assume you may have the original downloads, I would also download the installation files again to get the latest versions.
Do you know the serial number of X9, if no…
1 / Run the web Installer file (VideoStudioX9_Installer.exe) at 10.925Kb, if you do not have this file, download the file for X9 from here:-
https://www.videostudiopro.com/en/pages/download/
The first panel you see will contain your serial number, keep a copy of that serial number, although you should have that.
2 / Close the Panel
3 / Using Windows Program and Features Uninstall Video Studio X9
When complete:-
4 / Run the Cleanup tool from here
When complete:-
5 / Run the (VideoStudioX9_Installer.exe) file again, you will need to enter your serial number.
6 / On the final page “Please Choose a folder for Downloaded files”, this should be a new empty folder
7 / Press the Download / Install button

Re: Corel Video Studio X9 - Get all items failed, result = 100
Hi everybody.
Well, I've been unable to use the computer for a day. Screen went black, etc. I finally got past that.
I've tried several things each of you suggested. I couldn't get the one "asik1"sent to me (the URL). My system didn't recognize it. I think I've installed that link to another "19.0" (without the "64") on it. Not sure, so I'll try again someday. I even looked at the one posted years ago. It told me to "Stop" the process from running. That didn't work until I unplugged the Internet and ran computer off-line. I did a "cold boot" and from then on, the computer runs even on-line now.
So, thank you everyone who jumped in to help me with all good advice!
