VSP File Size after "Save As"

Post by RickMen »

With my VSP I save them regularly as I edit them (nearly a "Save" per edit). I also have my Preference-Undo setting set to 20. Also within the name of the VSP I have a version reference. At some key stages I "Save As" and update the version reference. I've noticed that as I "Save" the VSP the file size slowly increases (I expect that), but when I "Save As" the file size drops by roughly half. Why? I'm concerned that I might be losing information.

I think you would be aware that a VSP file is only a small text file showing what video is in the project, where it is stored and what editing has been done to it. It contains no video at all. So your worry about loss of information would only relate to losing text and not video. That being said, what happened in the two minutes between the saves? Did you cancel something in the editing of your project, e.g. cancel a filter or something like, so that the second save would have less information to record since that edit was no longer recorded there?

In this example below just after doing my Nth Ctl-S (11:18am) VS 'crashed', upon re-opening VS it asked if I wanted to recover the project which I answered YES then immediately saved it (11:21am) without deleting anything. The recovered project file size is half the size of the last Saved VSP. I reviewed the recovered VSP (11:21am) and it seem to match the 11:18am version.
