Is there a way to old VSP (created under VS4?5?6? - not sure) in VS2022?
My old clips are not well catalog and instead of going through each clip I want to open the old related VSP which would have the relevant clips I'm after.
If I can't open them, is there a work around?

Re: Opening very old VSP
They're only going to open if the video clips in them are still available. Otherwise, you will get messages telling you to relink them to the original clips, wherever they are stored. That's the "problem" with VSP files: they are small text files which merely tell VS what clips are included in a project, what editing has been done to them and, rather less clearly, where they are stored. There is no video at all included in them.

I don't even get the relink stage. After opening the VSP the following message appears.

Re: Opening very old VSP
You may need an earlier version of Video Studio to open these, so what versions have you used in the past.
The original video files, image files will need to be on the pc to be able to see the project.
I have VS 10 installed on my pc, if you can zip and attach the VSP I can try to open, not that i will be able to see much, just prove that it will open.
Oh, we can open the VSP using Notepad although most of the text is in source code and unreadable, not easy to understand, but there are some content that will show the clips being used and probably their location on the pc. Dont expect to much

Re: Opening very old VSP
Thanks for the offer Trevor. I tried Notepad, yep not much. I don't recall the version (probably VS4?5?6?7? - not sure) the VSPs were created 14-15 years ago. Oh well I'll have to go to 'plan B' and look through each clip from that era. In those days I didn't file them in any logical order (other than by year) so there is 100s of clips in one folder per year.

Re: Opening very old VSP
As i said, I do have an old version of Video Studio installed on a Win 7 laptop.
If you can provide the vsp there is a good chance that I can open it.
If so I will then get re-link requests that indicate the location of the files on the hard drive.
That should help you in finding the files.

Re: Opening very old VSP
It's a feature of VS that it will open project files created in prior versions. And if it opens one and some of the content clips, photos etc are not where they were originally, you will get a re-link message box, which allows you to find them now and update the location saved in the vsp. I've had every version of VS (except X3) since ulead version 11/11.5, and that's been the case with all of them.
So to get a 'cannot open file message' means you are working with a really old vsp/version of VS - well before Corel bought the program from ulead.

One thing of importance, is not to mess with the original file but to make copies with file explorer.

Re: Opening very old VSP
Maybe you can open it with VSP X9, save it as X9 format, and then use VSP 2022 to open the new file.
You can download it on https://www.videostudiopro.com/en/pages/download/
Click on VideoStudio X9, download the installer and install as a trial. Uninstall it after you done.

DavidK you jogged my memory, it was the Ulead version that was pre-installed on my desktop PC when I purchase the PC way back when.So to get a 'cannot open file message' means you are working with a really old vsp/version of VS - well before Corel bought the program from ulead.
Can X9 open ulead VSP?

Re: Opening very old VSP
If CVS2022 will not open it I doubt CVSX9 will open that file
X9 is nearly 10 years past Uleads last version Ulead VS10
If your Ulead version was preinstalled it will probably have been the SE version (a cut down version of the purchased option)
I can try for you -- but at best would only be able to ID the location of the files on the pc.

(Again Thanks for the offer Trevor ) but I think long term I need to reorganize my DV-AVI clips into something more meaningful than just by years.
