I have two images of timber planks and I am trying to change the overall color of one image to look like the other.
I have tried changing the RGB (shift u) and also color changer but just can't get the effect I want. Also looked for youtube tutorials but did not find one which would give the result I want.
I have attached two images and would like the overall color of the second image to look like the overall color of the first. It doesn't have to be exact but reasonably close.
Is there an easy method to change the overall color

Is this ok?
[attachment=0]planks2.jpg[/attachment
I used your original darker planks rotated by 90degrees.
I then resized reducing the height by 30% keeping the width the same.
You can then copy and paste it a few times into a frame the same size as the original.

Re: Is there an easy method to change the overall color
OK, as you asked for changes to the overall colours to be closer. I tried several Colour methodologies/manipulations whilst comparing them to the Histogram. Here's your original:
And here is the Histogram of those light-coloured boards are way off of the original Boards:
And here's my treatment:
You'll notice that the first and last Histograms now appear similar. And that is what I was searching for.
PS: I really enjoyed learning something new and applying what I know from Video editing too! The Histo is your friend

And you could also try the Manual Color Correction tool which can be found by going to Customize - Commands - All Commands and selecting Manual Color Correction from the right-hand side and dragging it to a toolbar.

Re: Is there an easy method to change the overall color
Wow so many different methods (I gave up on using the color changer and also manually adjusting RGB values)
Strangely I never received ANY emails this time advising or replies with links (I only found them by looking up my original post to check if there were any replies). I wonder why.
I will work through each method suggested for a learning experience.
Thanks again evertone.

Re: Is there an easy method to change the overall color
I wouldn't have done what I did if you hadn't asked for a solution! Using the Histogram, a valuable tool to make comparisons, of the light and dark wood, allowed me to explore all those different Adjustment Layers with a sense of confidence.

Jean-Luc
I liked the method which uses an 'average color' to flood fill. I was thinking of trying to use an average color but had no idea how to do that.
Kathy_9
I could NOT determine how to " try the Manual Color Correction tool which can be found by going to Customize - Commands - All Commands and selecting Manual Color Correction from the right-hand side and dragging it to a toolbar."
I am using PSP 2018 64 bit. Where is the 'customize' menu? I found one but it did not have a submenu item of 'commands'

Re: Is there an easy method to change the overall color
I can't remember when they introduced the "Essentials" workspace. But if you have an Essentials and Complete workspace, you need the Complete workspace. File -> Workspace -> Complete.
If that isn't an option then it should already be on the Complete workspace.
This screenshot is from 2023 but it should be the same for 2018 minus the extra workspace names of Photography and Sea-To-Sky as those were added in later versions.
From there these instructions should work.
1) View -> Customize
2) A dialog pops up with multiple tabs along the top, the first one (default tab) is the commands tab. It contains two lists one is the category, the other is the list of commands in that category
3) Select "All" in the first list, and then find "Manual Color Correction" in the second list 4) You can now drag it onto a toolbar or menu to make it available.

Re: Is there an easy method to change the overall color
Thanks. That was something I was not aware of before (ie File -> Workspace -> Complete)
I followed your instructions but was not able to drag 'manual color correction' onto ANY toolbar. I was though able to drag it onto the 'menu bar'.
I then found that if I go back to the 'essentials' workspace the tool (manual color correction' disappears from the menu bar. Is that correct (one can only see those added 'tools' in workspace complete?
Jean-Luc After some fast learning I managed to duplicate your method which looks good.

Re: Is there an easy method to change the overall color
There is really no need to use the Essentials workspace because it is basically a crippled (i.e., simplified) version of the Complete PSP workspace and therefore doesn't have all of the tools or capabilities of the Complete workspace.jparnold wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 6:55 am Thanks.
