Cannot read Movie Factory DVDs on other DVD players.

Post by BensonJL »

I have a Gateway 503GR with a "Lite-On DVDRW DOHW-832S" DVD drive and a "Hauppage WinTV PRV 150" as the capture device. I can make DVDs and play them succesfully on the Lite-On DVD burner (with the exception of black vertical stripe on the left of the screen, see other post) When I put a Ulead DVD recorded on the Lite-On in another standard DVD player then I get can square boxes like noise in bands across the image and eventually it will lock up. Another symptom is clicking on the motion menu will cause it to hang. I can play store bought DVDs fine on these devices. Sometimes I can read some of the DVD but once it starts failing it fails. It seems to happen most later on in the recording.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I have been burning years of my daughter VHS videos, until I discoverd they won't play if I send them to Grandma, in DVD-R On DVD+R media at 4x. When I used a DVD+R 8X media the symptoms seem worse and when I burn Ulead picks 3x as the write speed.

as much as possible, burn your DVDs to DVD-R for compatibility. burning at lower speed can sometimes fix playback problems.

download any latest updates for MovieFActory and check if your DVD burner has the latest firmware. brand of DVDs disc could also be a factory so try something else.

Some players simply can't play "burned" DVDs. Some players can play some formats, but not others. :( Like ploggy said, your odds are best with DVD-R. The odds of DVD+R working are almost as good, but things get worse with +RW and -RW.
