Hi
Welcome to the forums,
The first launch of the program immediately after installation is always slow whilst the library and other templates are loaded.
Once that has completed navigating the program and reaction to mouse clicks should improve.
So have things improved.
I noticed your profile showing windows XP, I assume that is wrong, can you please update your profile, thanks

I don't think that is it, I've had the program for a week now and it is so sluggish that I can't get any work done. I feel I wasted my money

Everything is so sluggish, it takes awhile to Even load up a preview making work near impossible or testing out filters. It definitely feels I wasted my money. I'm running windows 10

Your description of your problem lacks details which makes offering any suggestion pointless. The following details would be helpful as a start:
  1. How long is your project?
  2. What are the properties of the video clips that you're using?
  3. Are you using proxy files?

Your profile says "operating_system: Windows 11". As well, it provides no details about your system, e.g. CPU, GPU, storage type.

I tested it out just to play around with some filters I bought and it takes a couple moments just to see a preview of how the filters will look. The clip isn't even 10 seconds long

Filters will often cause delays, especially those which have the greatest effect on how a video will look. This happens with several of the filters that come with Video Studio. This isn't because they aren't working properly but because of the complicated effects they are made to achieve. Video editing isn't something you should expect to have immediately visible results. It may take time to get an effective preview, and more time when you render a final video of the project. But once rendered, you will probably find everything moves along quickly and in real time. However, you need to tell us which filters you are using, and we can see if they are ones which work well within Video Studio.

You also need to tell us about the format of the video you are using the filters on. Right click on one of the videos in the VS timeline and choose Properties. Then copy all the details here, please, or take a screenshot of the Properties box and post it here as an attachment. And do the same if you are using other formats. That way we might be able to copy what you are doing and make realistic comparisons with the time it takes us to do the same thing.

The format is a 9:16 instagram story
It's 1 minute 46 seconds long
File size 1.13 gb

Idk what a proxy file is. I want to edit videos

I'm operating Windows 11 home on an inspiron laptop

CPU Storage type: DDR4
memory speed: 3200 mhz

Why does this gave me So much crap versus editing faster through capcut on my phone?

I'm sorry but you don't get customer service here. If you look closer you will see this is a user-to-user forum. None of us here work for Corel/Alludo. We are all users just like you who volunteer their time in order to try to help other users. The fact you have not received much help here is partly due to the fact that while you might think you have given information which may help us, you haven't. I asked above if you could right click on the video in your timeline and copy all the info under Properties or take a screenshot of the Properties box and post it here. But without that, there is not much anyone can say.

If you are after customer service, then I am afraid you are going to have to approach Corel/Alludo directly.

Proxy Files
Where the program finds it difficult to play a particular video there is a process to create a proxy file, this helps is smoothing timeline playback.
Go to Preferences (F6) – Performance tab to Enable Smart Proxy
Right click your video on the timeline or library for – Create Smart Proxy
In addition inserting a video to the timeline should automatically create the proxy file.
Once created the playback should improve, a small double icon shows on the clip indicating proxies are being used.

Video File Size
You show the video being portrait at 1 min 46 sec having a size of 1.13Gb, that seems quite large, I would expect something in the region of 200Mb for a HD??
If the video is using a non standard codec then that could be the reason for the problems you are having.
in which case I would suggest you use a video converter to create a standard Mpeg4 HD file, assuming your video is Mpeg4????

Frame size, you show your video being portrait at 9:16, yet you mention 16:9, I assume one to be a typo???

Generally (for most video formats) we recommend setting your project properties to match the video files being used.
In addition to providing the videos properties can you say what your project properties are ( Alt+ Enter) copy and paste the details in the properties panel here.

as a test-- Start a new project, insert your video to the top timeline, Do you get a message to match the project properties to your video properties?

Dromega299,

If you're doing just Instagram reels, you're better off using these apps. https://later.com/blog/best-app-for-editing-reels/

If you want to utilize your new laptop to the fullest with video editing, Corel/Alludo software are mediocre at best. There are better options out there, you just missed a Humble Bundle deal that would've served you better than VideoStudio. PM me if you want to discuss this further.
