Hi
It's first time I tried to record voice-over and, while recording, there is no sound in the video being played in the video track. Is it supposed to be this way or is there a bug in the program? Or maybe I am missing something. I am going to record a translation, so without hearing the sound in the video I can't do anything. I am using VS 2020, if it is a bug in that version maybe upgrading to 2022 will help? Would be grateful for any suggestions.

Re: Recording voice-over
When recording a voice-over, the main timeline audio is muted, nothing we can do about that, can understand the reason why, but in your situation when you need to listen to the main timeline audio as you are translating, then it becomes a major issue. Can only suggest that you record in say 5 second blocks, listen to a segment, make the translation, then listen to another segment etc. not what you want to be advised and probably not practical.

Re: Recording voice-over
It's a pity that they don't have this simple feature. I wonder if they accept (and then really implement) feature requests. Anyway, I've found a simple cheap piece of software, Movavi Video Editor, that can do exactly what I need.

Re: Recording voice-over
The voice-over feature in both VS2018 and VS2021 works as expected, and I don't experience the audio tracks being muted. With a directional mic or headphones, there is no reason to mute the audio tracks.ldor wrote: I tried to record voice-over and, while recording, there is no sound in the video being played in the video track ... Check in Preferences that on the Edit tab, "Enable audio while scrubbing" is selected, as deselecting it will mute the audio whilst using the voice-over feature.

Re: Recording voice-over
For what it's worth, I never use voice over as such. Instead, I prepare a written script. Then I record each item on the script using third party audio software such as the freeware Audacity. This allows me to re-record if necessary due to mistakes or tone etc. It also gives me the range of audio tools which come with such programs and which are sorely missing from VS whose audio features are rather weak. I can then insert each item into the audio timeline at the appropriate place and adjust the volume of the existing audio already on the video so that my spoken video can be properly heard.

Re: Recording voice-over
The OP said "I am going to record a translation", which I understood to be consecutive or simultaneous translation. If true, then producing a written script would be not be relevant, and voice-over would be a more productive approach.Ken Berry wrote: I prepare a written script.

Re: Recording voice-over
Thank you that worked. Although this setting is not intuitive at all. Anyway, this has solved the issue

Re: Recording voice-over
Agree with you but in my case saving time is more important than caring for a perfect translation. So I do simultaneous translation and voice-over is just what I need
