PSP2022 Update problem!

Post by Tony C »

Hi all,
First post here, so hello everyone!

To explain my issue, firstly may I admit to being a bit of a Luddite with regard to modern technology and as previous experience has taught me not to interfere with the inner workings of such things :) but to explain, I have an issue with installing the PSP2022_Update1.exe file.

I have downloaded the file but when i try to install, it gets so far then stops and reports 'A fatal error has occurred'. I have tried deleting the file, several times, and then re-installing the Update, but still receive the fatal error message!

I am running an 'off the shelf' Acer Aspire C24-960 with the following...

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10210U CPU @ 1.60GHz 2.11 GHz
Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.88 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

...and currently, due to time constraints, I only really use PSP for photo manipulation of any pictures I take (correcting white balance, removing any dust spots, that sort of thing), so my questions are...

Given my current use of PSP, is the Update worth installing and if so, how?
Could it be that my system is too small for the update?
Is the Update file itself corrupt?

Many thanks in advance, for any assistance offered.
Tony

Hi Tony -- welcome to the forum!

It's unlikely the update file is corrupt, unless something happened during the download which might have corrupted it. Otherwise we would have had quite a few people complaining. So you could always download the update again and see what happens with the new download.

One other thing you might wish to try, though, involves uninstalling what you currently have in PSP 2022. Then go back to your installation files for it and click on setup.exe. This should start the full download again. Now Corel/Alludo have a habit of rolling updates into the build of PSP they have available on their servers for download. So hopefully, in this reinstallation you will get PSP with SP1 already included in it. Check Help > About and you should get build 24.1.0.32...

Or if your needs are simple, then leave PSP as you currently have it, as it will almost undoubtedly satisfy your needs...

Thanks Ken,
When you say 'involves uninstalling what you currently have in PSP 2022', do you mean that I should uninstall PSP or any Add-On's that I may have installed?

Thanks again,
Tony

No -- I meant you should uninstall the current build you have of PSP 2022 without Update 1. Then, when you reinstall with your (hopefully saved) installation file, it will download the latest build of PSP with Update 1 already included. This was just the most obvious way to me for you to get the latest and full version of PSP 2022.

Incidentally, what is your current build: check in Help > About. Corel/Alludo sometimes express things in funny ways, and it is just possible that telling you you had a fatal error might just be their way of saying you already had a version with the update included.

By the way, I have added your processor and RAM to your Profile. Such information is often useful and we usually ask for it anyway. The other important bit is your video card. You can get it easily enough by opening Device Manager in Control Panel or right clicking on the Windows symbol in the bottom left of screen.
