Video Filters

When I apply a video filter, specifically the Gaussian Blur or the Vignette-Darkroom , it causes the preview of the video to not run smoothly & at times will freeze or give me the micorsoft thing & crash the program.

I use the blur as a last step to go over pics or the video clips that I know would cause flickering otherwise. Additional concern with the Blur filter is that the rendering time takes an unusually long time....is this normal?

The clips that I have applied the Vignette to are from the same source video as those that do not have the Vignette.

This has always happened, I have been patient with it on short projects till now...this project is 50 mins.

Why would this be doing the above?
