layer selecting de-selecting problem psp 2023

Post by marq101 »

2023 selects or de-selects the wrong layer. I cannot de-select the last merged layer. It stayes visible and psp selects or de-select the layer above the merged layer even clicking on the merged layer.

Are there any other users having the same problem?

In the mean time back to 2022

Yes, I am experiencing the same exact thing. I've been trying to talk to Support about it, but they've been utterly useless (about this issue and the expand/contract issue that automatically offsets the selection).

I open a PSPimage (for example a digital scrapbooking striped paper template with 3 layers) and recolor the bottom layer (my templates are saved with the bottom layer highlighted). I then click on the layer above it and it works just fine. However, let's say I want to go back and change the color of the bottom layer, but it won't let me click on it again. As soon as I do, it's as though the layer doesn't exist anymore, as it automatically highlights the layer above it. No amount of clicking helps. lol

Yes that's indeed the same. I don't expect too much too from support.
Other issue is that I cannot open psp 2023 files with psp 2022. Don't expect much here also.

Luckily 2022 still works..sort of. It plays havoc with psd files so only psp files

I have not experienced the selecting/deselecting issue that you are seeing. Have you tried a reset?

Here are the instructions in case you need them. https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?t=67616

As far as not being able to open images in PSP2023 and I believe it's been addressed in another thread but I'll explain here as well. You need to go into Options when doing a Save or Save As and select a previous version for compatibility. Here's an image that might help you.

I have made a screen cap (wmv) of the problem but cannot attach it.
Where can I send it too?

If you have online storage like Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox those are good places. And all free. If the file isn't too big you can also send it to a Compressed .zip file and upload that. These forums do have a maximum 10MB limit on file uploads.

Okay this looks like marq101 you're having issues with layer visibility (eyeball icon) and ChristinaC you're having a separate issue with being able to select layers.

And I'm still unable to replicate both issues. If you haven't already done as Kathy_9 suggested and reset your workspace I recommend trying that first. If you have already reset your workspace then we can move on to trying to find what causes the issue.

Can we get a run down of the steps it took to get to this point? You mention "Merged" layers. Do you actually do any merging for this bug to show? Or is this a wording issue? So tell us what you did, 1) I opened image 1 2) I made selection 3) I promoted the selection to a new layer etc. And when the problem first shows up in your process.

Hi, Kathy. I tried what you suggested--a reset--but that didn't work. Thank you for the suggestion, though! Tech Support also had me uninstall and reinstall, as well as do a cleanup regarding the contract/expand issue, which didn't help this particular PSPimage layer issue, either. Every time I open 2023, it seems there are new glitches.

Could this PSPimage layer problem be because the PSPimages were made in a previous version?

It shouldn't be. File formats are forwards compatible. Each time a new setting or layer type is added it builds on the old one, not replacing it. The only reason it would be because of an old format is if PSP messed up it's own importing. Does this happen on all templates? Is there a particular one you know fails for you that we could try?

LeviFiction, yes, it occurs with every PSPimage file I've tried so far, which has been tens of them. I even just did a test PSPimage in 2023 using basic shapes, saved it, and reopened it. It still does the same thing. As soon as I move away from the bottom layer, I can no longer access the bottom layer. And this is a twist... I toggled the visibility on the bottom layer. The checkbox went blank, but the layer was still visible.

Okay now I'm seeing it and it shows both issues. Though I am able to reselect the background layer by first selecting the raster layer above it. You can see my demo here - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GnDFgG ... sp=sharing

Nice that you @ LeviFiction could replicate the issues. I always feel a bit of a noob when I'm the only one experiencing a problem

Im having the same issue - click on a layer and the one above it selects. Sometimes clicking the eye does not hide the layer or hides the one above it. Its a freaking mess.
Has anyone had support look at this and comment on it?

I'm seeing this problem while trialling 2023. The Black Friday offer ends soon and it's quite annoying to find a significant bug with no indication of when - or if - it might be resolved. Maybe I'll stick with 2019 for a little longer...
