How to install a second version of Paint Shop Pro?

Post by artgal »

Hello..
I'm running PSP 2020, 64 bit, Win 10, Dell Precision 7740. I just got a notice for a 10 day trial of version 2023. I'm not sure if the enhancements are significant but I'd like to check it out.
To my question: What is the proper way to install the trial version so that, if I like it, I can have both versions (2020 and 2023) installed on my system. Should I create a directory to install 2023 to, so that 2020 doesn't get overwritten, or will that be done automatically? I just don't want to loose 2020 with an improper install of 2023. This used to be so easy years ago but seess it's become a bit tricky.
Thanks in advance.

PSP never overwrites an older version. You don't need to worry. It'll install itself in it's own directory, and create new template folders. The whole shebang. Many of us have multiple versions of PSP installed side by side and they never required us to change where it installs. We just run the installer as per normal.

Installing different versions creates a separate folder for each. So would already have a folder in C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2020. And the installation of the trial 2023 will create a separate installation folder C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2023. It will not overwrite 2020.

While you can install the SN in the trial version if you like it and buy it, we usually recommend you uninstall the trial version and download and install the full version instead. This avoids any situation where you might not get everything once you upgrade the trial version. But that is up to you.

Thank you LeviFiction and Ken Berry. That's how I remember PSP installing. Not so with other programs so just wanted to be sure. One question though ..if I uninstall the trial before installing the new 2023 version will that effect the sale price I was offered? An ad popped up when I opened 2020 with a discounted rate for 2023.

No, once you buy it you've bought it. Doesn't matter if you uninstall and reinstall after the fact. If you decide to buy at the offered price, you've bought it. It's not connected to the existence of the Trial version. Just time.

I have both PSP2020U and PSP2021U both 32 and 64 bit. I have to close both 20 and 21 64 bit before I can open a 32 bit version. Why?
Also when I save a image and close that image in PSP. I then decide to delete it. Windows tells me it's open in a program can not delete. I have to close both versions before I can delete it. Why?
Any ways around these issues?

32-bit and 64-bit are still the same version of PSP. You can't open two copies of the same version of PSP regardless of whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit.You should be able to have 32-bit 2020 and 64-bit 2021 open at the same time but not 2020 32-bit and 2020 64-bit.

I don't have the issue with image I just saved still being locked by PSP. So I can't say. I have 2020 and 2023 installed on my computer at the moment. Do you use the Manage mode to watch folders on your computer?
