Selection does not show holes/gaps Invert shows

First my confession: I am still using PSP 2022, being reluctant to pay every year for upgrades that don't provide anything I want, and sometimes complicate what I do want...

Today I spent a long time selecting contiguous areas of the varied fall color & texture of a leaf and seed. The colors are all over the out of focus background, and the edges complex, so manual selection was my only choice. I zoomed in, zoomed out, removed holes, etc. Every time I thought I has what I needed, I promoted it to a new layer, then hid the background layer. If I zoomed in, there were holes... some surely smaller than the 100x1000 setting on the remove holes.

But the other interesting thing is that inverting my selection showed me the edges of all these holes, some tiny some bigger. And the positive selection did not show them! Aggravating...

Perhaps some setting to check or uncheck.
Put here a screen capture of your options toolbar showing all the settings.
Could you post an example of holes before and after?

Do you have anti-alias checked and Feather set to anything but zero?
