How to Save Screen Capture as WMV

Post by pb018csuf »

Can you no longer save screen captures in WMV format? Multicam only seems to save as MP4.

The Screen Capture Program before MultiCam Capture Lite, from memory could record in WMV, since then MultiCam Capture Lite 1.2.7.654 can only record in MPEG or AVC and MuliCam Capture 2.0 Lite would appear to only record in MP4 format.
For screen capture I use MultiCam Capture XL Version 1.1.639.0 which can record in AVC, MPEG2, MTS, M2T and 3 Youtube formats.
MultiCam Capture 2.0 full version may have additional recording formats available

Thank you Robert,

But unfortunately that is not the case. I upgraded to Capture 2.0 before I posted the question. After upgrading, I was offered the same choice of normal ...better ... best or whatever junk Corel has served up. No option for for WMV. Maybe for the other parts of the capture module, but the screen capture is still a lousy lossey compressed mp4 file. So the upgrade proved a rip-off.

what version of Video Studio were you using before updating to VS 2022.

If you re-install that version you would also install the earlier screen capture version that used WMV

Thank you Trevor ...

I was afraid of that. I have VisualStudio 7 on my Windows 7 system, but when I built my new system I upgraded (so I thought) to VisualStudio 2022. My normal application is Premier Pro, and I only use VisualStudio for screen capture. So what a surprise to find the upgrade is really a downgrade. It's funny, but it seems all the applications are more streamlined and work better in my Windows 7 workstation (Corel, Adobe applications etc). Everything now seems cluttered and loaded with junk.

If you do install, you should be able to install the program withought the bonus features to get LSC
By the way the program is Video Studio not Visual Studio which i believe is a different product all together.

Are you suggesting to try and install VideoStudio 7 in Windows 10? It barely installs correctly in Windows 7. There are several threads devoted to that issue alone.

Paul
I cannot recall having any problems in installing VS X7 on Windows 10.
Things do change with windows updates, so I tried installing VS X7.
No problems, its now running on windows 10

Even if X7 does not run the screen capture should work.

If you have screen capture installed on Windows 7, try copying the screen capture files, 3 files to Windows 10 desktop, it is possible the screen capture will run.
Not sure which three files, a right click on the screen capture icon for properties, locate on pc, should find 1 file, + 2 adjacent files

C/ program files / corel / video studio x7

I don't think he is talking about X7 but about version 7 without the X. That's the version I started with about 20 years or more ago...

No, I have X7. I tried running the three capture files but it needs to have some dll installed so it will not work on it's own. I see there is an update 7.6 but I can't find a place to download it. I am assuming my serial # will work.

There was a Windows Security issue that affected launching VS X7 on Windows 7 platform, Corel provided a hot fix for that, download from the link Robert provided
“This update fixes launch issues caused by the February 2016 Windows 7 Security Update from Microsoft.”
But it was for Windows 7, Video Studio X7 should install on Windows 10 platform without any hot fix.
Running the program will prompt you to install an Update Patch.

I was able to get X7 installed, but it does not run. The links to the "prior version" seems to only be an update service pack and for some reason it does not recognize my X7. In any case, the screen capture seems to function and that is all I use anyway.

Thank you Trevor and Ken.

from memory we need to install X7 Service pack 1
then install the Windows patch

If that does not work then I can provide the Hotfix file, if i can find it

Strange that it does not run, I had no problems installing on Windows 10.
and as far as i know the windows fix was for Windows 7?

I applied the Hotfix, but trying to run the Service Pack yields this message ...

"The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate."

"The system has not been modified.
