I didn't use the technique so far in this version, but in PSP 2022 / Win10 the selection tools in the menu choosing freehand, wizzards etc do not work.
I went back to 2018 and 2020 versions, there everything works as usual and expected.
In the 2022 version the freehand circle does not close, other selection-menu items do no work at all.
Is some setting changed or is this a bug that needs an update?

Have you tried resetting PSP 2022? To do so, close PSP. Then hold down the Shift key when you click on the desktop PSP icon to open it. You will be asked if you want to reset. Make sure you first save any customizations you may have made; otherwise they will be lost in the reset.
Does that make any difference?

Alas, no real difference in behaviour.
The one tiny difference is that part of the just drawn freehand selection line remains on screen;
before reset all of it vanished.
That has little to do with visual lines or not, of course I toggled the option multiple times. But PSP 2022 simply does not select, except for the full image.

Not sure what you mean by "wizzard menu".
Question - What is your mode set to? Make sure it's on "add" and not "replace" or "remove".

Re: selecting freehand, wizzard menu does not work in PSP 2022
sorry, work on a Dutch interface. Should have called it selection tools, so you might have understood.
about the mode:
it was on replace, but I used <Shift> as I was used to in many previous versions. That didn't work so far.
Until this fresh startup, first set it to 'add' mode in the top menu bar.
Thus it worked, later back to "replace" mode in the menu bar, now both <Shift> and <Ctrl> work as intended.
Problem solved
