Hiya, I'm a graphics newbie, and I'm following this tutorial : https://photoshoproadmap.com/give-your- ... ok-effect/
I know the tuorial is Adobe but does PaintShop Pro 2019 have a film grain filter or effect?
Regards
Dave

Re: Is there a film grain effect
The tutorial is for the halftone effect, not film grain.
If you want a real film grain, try G'MIC:

You can also simulate it by creating a top layer, fill it with black, set it to screen, and add noise to the layer Image -> Add/remove noise -> Add Noise
Then you can change the opacity of that layer to decrease the appearance of the added noise.
Then you can change the opacity of that layer to decrease the appearance of the added noise.

Thank you for your advice. It is really very practical.

Re: Is there a film grain effect
I would like this too. I went to g’mic, and the program choices were Photoshop, xNPhoto, and Affinity. It doesn’t say anything about PSP.
Is there a reason for this?
I have other 8bf filters ( most of which do not work now) and I wondered how hard it would be to get this G’mic Film Grain up and running, and if anyone could provide instructions?
Noise is only ok. I used to have a film grain filter, and noise just seems a lot harsher and faker to me.

@Lime - https://gmic.eu/download.html
When I scroll down I see "G'MIC-Qt plug-in for
Photoshop / Affinity Photo / PaintShop Pro /
PhotoLine / XnView (8bf)"
Which does list PaintShop Pro.
Getting up and running is easy.
1) Find or create a folder to put the plugins. I put mine in the same location as all of the other files C:\users\username\documents\corel paintshop pro\20xx\Plugins
2) Download the G'Mic plugin, making sure to download the appropriate x64 or x86(32-bit) version and NOT the arm versions - here is the direct link to the download file. https://github.com/0xC0000054/gmic-8bf/releases
3) Unzip into your plugins folder
4) Add a custom plugins folder to put the G'Mic plugin in
a) File -> Preferences -> File Locations
b) Select "Plug-ins" from the list on the left and on the right click the "Add" button
c) Navigate to your created folder from step 1 and add it
PSP should now find the plugin automatically. If not, try restarting PSP.

Re: Is there a film grain effect
Hey, thanks! I was on a different page and didn’t see any reference to PSP. (https://gmic.eu/reference/installing_th ... hosts.html)
You may have helped me solve a little mystery, too. I upgraded to 2022 and I thought filters were like scripts - you put them in the folder, and PSP auto-finds them. (I didn’t know you had to manually add them.)
Thanks, Levi!
