Hi,
I was using VS 2018 for many years and did an upgrade to VS 2022 these days.
A process of recording videos with TS-format, copying it into VS 2018, cutting is, and creating a MPEG-2 output did work fine.
After the upgrade to VS2022 I am unable to create a problem-free MPEG-2 output using the MPEG optimized standard profile.
The output file does continuous video stuttering whatever player I use (normally VLC), so it is unusable for me.
Does anyone have an idea for me, what can I do?
Thank you, Mike

Hi Mike
Welcome to the forums
Can you provide more details regarding your video file.
Right click the clip on the timeline and choose properties.
Are you able to create an image of that panel to attach to your post.
Your project settings should be set to the video properties.
After you have rendered to Mpeg2, again right click for properties, what are they?
Stuttering may be caused by a change in frame rate or a change in frame type, interlacing change from lower to upper field will cause problems
Some older video may use lower field whereas new types could use upper field, as is video studios default choice.
So important that your output properties for mpeg2 are matching the TS properties, where possible.

Hi Iata,
Thank you for your first hints, I did the following:
- From my TS input file, I created an MPG output and an MP4 output file.
- I will include data about the input and both output files (as soon as I am allowed to post attachments)
- When playing all three files using VS, everything is ok.
- When playing all three files with VLC or Windows Media Player the MPG output file has this strange problem.
Thank you, Mike

Re: MPEG-2 output is stuttering - VideoStudio 2022
It does seem strange that VLC has problems playing the original video.
When you render the project can you try deselecting Smart Render, will take longer to complete, may make a difference???
When you rendered to Mp4 you increased the frame size from 1280 to 1920 a bit of upscalling should not be a problem, however you changed the frame rate from 50 to 25, this effectively deletes / removes every alternate frame from the video, reducing quality.

Re: MPEG-2 output is stuttering - VideoStudio 2022
Sorry, wrong statement from me, I created 3 output test files and gave you 2 of them only, so I mixed up 2 and 3 ...
So, correct is the following:
- Input TS file is ok so far, VLC and WinMP can do it without problems
- Output file with profile "MPEG-Optimization" creates an MPG file, which does stutter using both VLC and WinMP.
Further:
- Switching off Smart Render does not change the problem
- When creating the MP4 file I did not think about details, just for a test, but it works fine.
Now I did some more tests and created a user profile, every output with that creates an m2t-file:
- Test A: Output with Videoformat "H.264-Video" in user profile, which is the same as in MPEG-Optimization profile
- Test B: Output with Videoformat "H.265-Video" or "MPEG" in user profile.
Result:
- Test A has the problem in both cases
- Test B is ok so far in both cases
So, what can be the problem with the "H.264-Video" specification in parameter Videoformat?
Regards, Mike

Re: MPEG-2 output is stuttering - VideoStudio 2022
After some discussion with a support engineer from Corel, the situation looks like this:
My recordings are coming from TV broadcasts here in Germany distributed via Astra sat. The recordings that cause the problems come from public tv stations transmitting in HD format.
When I record a specific program from a non-HD channel, rendering works fine, when I do it in parallel for the same program from an HD channel, I get the problem afterwards.
In the past, working with VS 2018, there was no problem with that kind of recordings, I did not care about HD or non-HD. Now, with VS 2022, there is this new problem.
So, whenever (using VS 2022) I render a .ts input in HD into a .mpeg output, the video is stuttering. When converting a non-HD input into a .mpeg output, the video is ok.
And in addition, every conversion of any recording (HD or non-HD) into .mp4 is ok as well.
Support from Corel tells me now, that "the different codecs" cause the problem. They suggest as solution to convert my input into an intermediate format, and then in a second step into the .mpeg output.
They recommend using an external tool called XMedia Recode and refer to https://kb.corel.com/en/127747
This tool is very powerful, it looks good, but why do I need it?
Sounds crazy, isn't it ... I just want to convert from .ts in HD format into .mpeg using one of the leading video software tools ... VS 2022!
Does anyone else have that problem too, or at least a comment on this situation?
Thank you, Mike
