PSP cannot keep up with typing: no type ahead, input discarded

Post by SJS »

I have been frustrated by poor performance with typed input and also mouse clicks in PSP 2022.

I first noticed this when resizing an image by dimension: I would type 12 into the width field and hit return, only to get a 1 inch wide image instead of a 12 inch image. I have experienced this often enough to be convinced this is not my typing error. PSP discards the 2, but gets the return/enter and proceeds. It does not seem to be limited to keyboard input. Quite often I am sure I clicked/selected when my cursor was in the correct location but PSP loses the input and have to click again.

I am running Windows 11 on a brand new computer, but I was experiencing this same problem with PSP 2022 on my previous computer running Windows 10. I has so hoped this would be "cured" with my new system... but no.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Since I have been unable to use my XP-Pen Deco L tablet with PSP 2022, I am reluctantly getting serious about moving to another graphics package. I have been such a PSP enthusiast for so many years, but I cannot justify purchasing new versions every year for support that does not actually exist, new features I don't use, and the requirement to reset all my preferences every time.

Yeah and the autosave discard by typing Esc needs 10 seconds to abort !

Yes many things take longer than 10 secs to even cancel... contracting or expanding complex selections requires long waits just to cancel even with Preview on Image OFF. And yet PSP is very very fast to start up a preview so that if you want to change the expansion number of pixels from say 30 to 15, this will require two tries: one for altering each digit!!!! Waiting after the first typed digit change to cancel the preview, then changing the other digit! Crazy!

An other bug in the Suppress Chromatic Aberrations. When selecting a small portion of a big photo, with preview, it takes exactly the same time as the full image to wait !
